Not sure quite why you quoted me when making you statement. I thought my post was concluding that government should step out and let us make our own choices.

I did make some observations why the low countries are generally percieved as more cyclist friendly. I'm all for raising the standard of driving rather than amour plating ourselves.

I do think if more drivers were cyclists (as with the low countries example) they would understand what it is like as a cyclist to share the roads and so improve their driving.
