Am converting my old MTB to a single speed for road use, any recommendations on tyre choice? Been looking at Michelin 'City' Tyres at £10 each, should I go 1.4" or 1.85" ?

Or what about the WTB

Or Schwalbe? Again 1.5" or 1.95"

Don't want to spend too much , it will be just for shop/pub trips, nothing too demanding.

I have the Michelin city's on my hybrid. No punctures in 4 months of commuting good wear rate nice reflective strip that really shows up in headlights for £10 a pop they are good value IMO.

Bought these Contis years ago would recommend them. Not had a puncture and I can also use them off-road to a certain extent.

Hmmm...nice but a bit too much money for what I want, I'm on a tight budget!

If you live near a Decathlon store, then they do MTB slicks for a similar price with a reflective strip. However I've just changed mine back to DMR Moto Diggers, which are more MTB than road, but still are lowish rolling resistance, especially at 60psi which is near the top end of the recommended pressure range. Also allows me to use a couple of tracks on the commute if I like.

A friend who also commutes really rates the travel contacts as per Aur's post above.

Also there's these which are slighty wider and cheap

Went for the Michelin 'City' Tyres in the end, decided on the 1.4" for speeeed! Hope they don't give me too harsher ride compared to the 1.85", should arrive today, should have my single speed on the road by the weekend.
