Did my first 50mile ride 29 days after I first sat on the bike. Total of 2300 ft of climbs according to map my ride.
Only problem was I fitted a handlebar bag in order to store food and it messed up the gears I could not get the big ring on the peddles and not the 2 biggest on the wheel with out it jumping so was better that I did not use them.
So just need to re adjust them.

Well done, that's some achievement.

Have you signed up for London to Brighton with us lot yet?

I never really liked having extra weight on the handlebars, instead I keep stuff in the pockets of my shirt. I have know people who gaffer-taped an "emergency Mars bar" to the underside of the handlebar stem though, which I thought was quite a good idea...

Congrats biggrin

I always keep some 'sweetie' money in my pocket just in case I bonk mid ride, saves carrying stuff.

Nice one, somehow the first big ride always sticks in the memory.

Great effort, I bet you're itching to give it another go.

I'll never forget me and my dad doing Kingswood in Surrey to Brighton and back on a budget supermarket special 'mountain' bike (I thought it was a 'proper' bike at the time) and a knackered old Raleigh painted in black Hammerite that weighed about a ton!

Reigate hill on the way back felt like riding up a cliff!

thanks for the encouragement.

bit slower than i wanted, 4:35 wanted a time closer to 4 hours but having half my gears missing would not of helped.
but still i am happy with it considering i did not start riding till 1st Jan.

signed up for a 200km stockport end of march so still a long way to go,
if i can do a couple of them say 200 and 300 this year i would be happy.

That is some achievement. Well played to you.

Im assuming you dont mean the large front and large rear gears at the same time. If you do the angle of the chain is fighting you hence not sitting in gear nicely.

If you have a 105 gearset have it checked by your supplying shop. They had issues. (mine is in being replaced at the moment).

Hopefully I'll get to match your 50 miler this weekend. I'm feeling quite lazy now.

Turns out 60 miles was too far for me on my second ride- should have stuck to about 50. Fortunately I got the train back smile
