Was slightly distracted from the day job this afternoon - went to pick up my refurbed and custom-painted frame from Dave Yates Cycles.

It's nothing exotic, just a Dawes Impulse from circa 1980-something. Dave's done a brilliant job with the paint, and while purists may have issues with my transfer choices I don't care! (And no, I wouldn't put Merc badges on a Smart car... smile )

Next stop the bike shop to get my NOS Shimano biopace crankset and other bits and pieces fitted.

Even the OH likes it, but I haven't told her how much it's all costing. eek

It's 531 apart from the wheel stays which Dave kindly referred to as 'monkey metal'. And yes I am. smile

Ford GT40 Gulf colours, deliberately?

531 is okay. Old school training bike/touring bike tubing.
One of my bikes is 531 framed.....but its a 57cm one, not a 62cm (educated guess) like yours!

Fraid so... I couldn't resist. I've got a handful of Gulf stickers I was going to put on for the full effect, but now I've seen it painted I'll probably leave them off.

I know 531 isn't very special, but considering my size and love of a good lunch, the benefits of losing a few grammes on an expensive frame would be marginal. Plus I didn't really want a speed machine - it's just fun doing something 'bespoke'.

'Kin 'ell that's a big bike!

Very nice, like that a lot. But can't help wondering if "panel graphics" name might have been the icing on the cake of what looks to be a very nice retro build...

...like this Kona.
