Hi all, heen lurking a while now;

I am in the market for a decent hardtail and have narrowed it down to these two by personal choice. The Specialized is £200 dearer than the G2, but they both have Shimano gears and Rock Shox forks so I am wondering if the extra money is worth it. That said, I am a fan of Specialized and I love the frame and colour.

I have got Evans to order one in and I have a refundable £50 deposit if I choose not to go ahead with the purchase, as I have not actually seen one yet. I have seen last years in White and the G2, and I like both, but the current 2011 model has really tempted me.

I was after a stump jumper but have only managed to find one priced at £1600 which horrified me at that price...

Any advice? Links to both below:

Ive had the 2011 Rockhopper Comp for just over a month now and cant fault it at all.

Ive come from a 12 year old FSR and its another world.

Ive been riding the rockhopper to work every day and throwing it about in the woods at the weekends and its awesome.
Anything specific that you want to know about it give me a shout.

FSR? A full sus?

I can't really see what the "pro" has over the "comp", but the comp seems to offer a seriously better deal than the standard hopper which has those dreaded suntour forks and uninspiring disc brakes.

You could pick up a 2010 Nail Trail for an extra £100, I just did last week and it's awesome...

I had a G2 (It was stolen)
SUPERB SUPERB SUPERB!
The price break is due to the frame being made in Taiwan, not Halifax but if you can forgive it for that it is superb. I went for the G2 because I had an XT groupset and some decent forks hanging around. To be honest the original forks are better than you would expect, just a little hefty and with hind sight there was no need to swap. XT groupset with XTR shifters did wonders for the feel and great bike excelent! It was a real tough bike and handled everything you could throw at the thing and always did the most important thing, it made me smile.

Buy one and I hope you have half the fun it gave me.

Yeah a lime green FSR full sus... not the most appropriate for the riding to work bit but still a good laugh up the woods....

Well, after a brief look at everything there was I decided to order a Specialized Rockhopper Comp to Evans under their refundable deposit system, as no matter where I looked I could not find anything other than a standard Rockhopper, not a Comp anywhere.

It turned up and I rode it briefly, did what I thought it would do, felt light, agile, sprint capable and perfect for some XC attack so ended up buying it. It seems to be good value as the standard Rockhopper comes with dreaded Suntour forks and lower spec gearing/brakes, whereas the Rockhopper Pro costs £1200 ( !!! ) for basiclly air sprung forks over coil sprung.

Have not actually had the chance to ride it properly yet but very pleased so far. Am going to get to grips with it over the weekend and post up my experience.

Went out for the first time yesterday on my new Specialized Comp - very light and agile, very accurate and a different riding position, not so upright as my old hardtail but more lean 'forward and race' seating.

It is also a great sprinter, it really shifts quickly with bursts of energy. Not sure if I find the speed deceptive as I rode it after a day on the motorbike, so from one end of the scale to another in terms of how fast it felt, but, I did manage my usual 3 mile blast in a very good time compared to the old bike, and it is only the start of the riding season for me...
