What Girl's Bike (24")

Looking for a new bike for my daughter's 8th birthday at the moment. Have just tried her out on a couple of small 26" and std 24" versions and the 24 seems to be a better fit (though obviously won't last as long).
Being 8: the looks are the most important thing for her!
Best was a Cube 240 at £300
Middle Carrera Luna £190
Last Trek 220 £240
I'm looking for recommendations (to validate the outlay) / cheaper alternatives as these seem very expensive and I can't see anywhere selling 2nd hand versions (ebay seems to be full of Apollos)
Having used the search function, Islabikes seem to get lots of recommendations: does anyone know where there are any dealers or do you need to go to the factory. Also, their website says they buy back - what then happens to the bikes - don't they sell refurbed?
