I currently have two U locks at my disposal, one a large hefty Lidl special, and another smaller one, the former being left at work so I don't have to carry it back and forth on the daily commute. The main triangle of the frame is too small to accomodate attaching either of them "inside the triangle", but it would be nice to carry the smaller one on the frame for securing the bike elsewhere. Its too big to fit in a saddlebag but too small for the frame.

Any suggestions for a "compact" but secure U lock? The kryptonite New York "FAHGETTABOUDIT" seems to be fairly small, but it also weighs over 2kgs and may be slightly overkill...

The bike is a Specialized hardrock sport 2006 BTW.

Get a flexible cable thingy and a small padlock, especially if you only leave it for a few mins. Otherwise get a D-lock and leave it at work.

One bike down and I'll not be using a cable lock of any sort ever again...

Ditto. (one bike down also, hence my U lock fetish...)

Managed to adjust the clamp on the seat tube so that the U lock is held on one side of the frame as suggested.
