I can recall being at the Doorslammer internationals (garys international slammers?)
years ago that went on into the night, on a summers night.
There was a big pot of cash up for grabs on a heads up basis....
Big contingent from the netherlands, event was won by a Mustang...Yellow......
Was it the Pied Piper ? Anyone remember//Have anything to do with it ?

Indeed it was the Pied Piper & the year was 1988. It was the first ever 64 car field for this event & there was a huge Scandinavian contingent in attendance.
The Pied piper very nearly failed to make the first round as its 460 Ford motor suffered head gasket issues during qualifying. The guys got it done just in time & thanks to a fellow racer waiting for the car to be fixed the Mustang made round one & went on to win the event. On the way it ran a best of 9.90 at 135 mph, the final took place at 9.30 pm against a faster Camaro & it looked ominous, however the Swede lost fire after the burnout & the Pied Piper took the win to a rapturous reception from the crowd.
I was lucky enough to be the driver of that car & remembering that night still sends shivers down my spine today!
I have pic on my PC at work & will try to post it tommorrow.

Gotta love PH.....
Cant believe your on here, and have been for a while.
That was a stunning weekends street racing, and I can remember that night quite clearly.
I did feel sorry for the swede, he was trying everything to get going, they had the boot open and Nos turned off......
That was before I started taking pics, so was sans camera the the event.
Cheers

Nice memories coming up, it was the first time I visited Santa Pod and the only time I had my own car with me. Me and my buddy raced with my old 1964 Pontiac Lemans streetcar in a Swedish serie and finished in first in our class and first prize was a trip to England with the car. The yellow Camaro that broked in the burnout was owned by a norwegian guy and they couldn´t start the car because a couple of rods was broken! It was the same Camaro that Anders "Bostic" Envall won Gary´s Doorslammer with some years earlier. Awesome meeting!

There where some Dutchmen present at Gary's Doorslammer weekend, but not as much as there where Vikings...
I was part of the 64 field in a 12 second red 67 Mustang fastback (driven over the street to the Pod)
and lost the 1st round to a flatblack stickshifted 67 Nova from Janne from Aby, Sweden.
I still have some pics (and videotape) here, I will scan them and try to place them here later.
My buddy drove a sleeper Mazda 323 with a Rover V8 that went 11.6
If I remember correct that Pied Piper Stang screwed up a driveshaft in qualifying,
and that white 65 Impala with fuel injection burped a big fireball at the nightrace
great atmosfere that night!

Taximan,
That was 1989 you are thinking of, we did screw up the propshaft, in fact we still have it as a souvenir!
I remember the 323, it was very cool indeed. We actually won the event again in '89 but the final was held on Sunday morning due to the track getting damp. Great memories, thanks for bringing them back.

Makes feel warm all over Jeff eh?.....lol
That photo has made me feel old.....
Hi Eric NL
You must be the same guy that bought my friends black 57 Chevy that we ran at Gary´s 89 and 90. In 91 we ran a 69 Camaro called Teaser. A flat tire stopped us in the elimination that time.
Benni, I don´t get what you mean with "Iceman"? I was crew for Bjorn Crongvist 93-95 then some team in sweden and 01-03 crew and 04-05 crewchief for Promodracer Patrick Wikstrom and I helped Urban Johansson in 2006.
And we have meet a couple of times.
Back to Gary´s doorslammer:
In Sweden those partys we had at The Hind hotel in Wellinboroug are legendary.
I have a lot of photos from the races somewhere, a good day I may find them.

Hello KP1 and Guests,
to be honest, I thought you were Kent Persson,
who did the first european 4 driving the Peter Lantz Fueler,
and had the nickname "Iceman" .
If I am wrong, I am sorry
about that.
Anyway,
Congratulations for your "helping Urban Johansson"
and being a member of a
European Champion´s Team (again)

Ah the Doorslammers, those were great race meetings, one year it rained heavily ('90 ? )& the Pod reopened the track on the Monday for the Scandinavians.
I to have loads of pics. all prints that I'll have to get scanned
and that white 65 Impala with fuel injection burped a big fireball at the nightrace
great atmosfere that night!
Eric-NL
I don't remember the Impala having injection, I do remember it having 8 coils, 1 per cyl. very unusual back then , now production cars have them.

Hi KP1, sure I know who you are.
I still have the 57, it is in the middle of a rebuild with Corvette C4 suspension, TPI small block and convertible top.
We visited the Garys Doorslammer weekend a few years in a row
and later Powers Street finals at Mantorp, allways good fun meets!
Lett's all look for those old pics, scan them and bring back memorys like old geezers
I thought that big white 65 Impala had 8 injectorstacks (not sure anymore) and indeed it had 8 coils!
The first Cronquist Stingray was a cool car too, someone from my town bought it and this summer I saw it in Belgium.
I allways liked those flatblack pure business Swedish streetcars, a lot of guys that raced them seem to end up in Pro Mod.
