Do any of the European drivers wear a HANS Device? They are compulsory in NHRA drag racing for anyone driving a car capable of speeds in excess of 200 mph.

They are also recommended in FIA rules, and will become mandatory in 2008 or 2009 depending on class in the FIA. I find the statement in the rules
"The wearing of an FIA-homologated head restraint device will be obligatory from January 1, 2008 for championship events, and from January 1, 2009 for other international events"

a bit confusing for determining which classes are affected when so have requested clarification. However, the rules do still strongly stress their recommendation to use one prior to these dates.

For a long time I found it odd how in drag racing the neck collar was used, but you didn't see any neck support in other motorsport divisions. Now it seems that drag racing is behind the game in this area, but rapidly catching up.
Dale Earnhardt the NASCAR driver would probably still be alive if he had worn one. lt's said he wouldn't wear one as the HANS device would hang him.

l think they should become compulsory for any FIA class where the vehicle exceeds 200 mph.
