Well the market will decide ...

It's my experience that BMW's lose quite a lot of value from new (sometimes at new) ... I guess this is where the comparison is.

This car is just the dogs, I’ll update my thread in Readers cars when I get home, currently on a 3k mileage tour of Austria, Italy and Switzerland.
Even 4 up, 60kg of luggage will happily chase up and down Porsche on the mountain passes with a nagging wife too biggrin

The AC is brilliant, unlike FK8 which was poor, comfortable sits at 120+ on the autobahn and even with all the weight still hits 160mph with ease.

Achilles heel is the fuel tank, needs to be bigger!

Loads of photos to come, car is filthy having navigated though some interesting roads, changeable weather including avoiding inch sized car denting hale.

Yes, totally agree. Brilliant cars, so engaging/fun, yet useable day to day with nice compliance.

Great write up! I need to organise to see one of these cars and get a passenger ride.

Great write up - not helping me avoid man mathing myself into the new one.
As a serial FK8 owner I keep flip flopping between desire for the new one and thinking spending £20k on a car that is preciously close to what I already have makes no sense at all.

The sceptism is gone! Second day of the ownership and can't stop thinking of reasons to drive it. It has a weird but good sensation I haven't had when driving a car for a while, the suspension is firm but not necessarily busy and you can feel the quality of the set up providing feedback yet forgiving of road imperfections. The breaking is precise. Just a very complete package.

Before this was mk4 Megane Trophy which was more agile and raw, much less of a grown up car the Renault and fun in a very different way..

Indeed. This white is quite subtle and appear to have some thickness rather than a thin layer.

Picking up a used B Blue FL5 on Thursday. It has done <1000 miles. I had a test drive on Saturday. I didn't get a chance to properly assess the differences to the FK8 in terms of handling, but the steering felt great. That was the main difference I noticed. (I have owned an FK8 for the last 5 years).

Although I avoided the temptation of changing the exhaust on the FL5, I would like to go for a ride in a car with a Milltek road+ to experience it in person. Anyone have one around Berks / Bucks / Oxon?

Nope, just a motorist in London

Congrats! I've never driven an FK8, but I have seen it! The look alone is enough for me to cut the deal with the FL5.

From what I've heard the FK8 had a lot of focus for the front end, whereas the FL5 does feel you are driving the whole car which I agree.

I would like a little more sound but don’t intend on an aftermarket system. To me a resonator delete looks like the best option, but I’m not sure where to go for that.

With respect how can you agree when you haven't driven them? The FK8 is truly outstanding , and I'm not so sure the FL5 is necessarily better from what I've read. The only actual back to back review I've seen is Mat Watsons which suggests the FK8 is more focused full stop - and more fun as a result.

But I love the FL5, obviously brilliant, just not really £20k better than my FK8 I suspect.

Of course, apologies for being a pedant. Spending rather too much time agonizing over getting into the new car myself, head and heart in conflict. smile

This is the what I've been weighing up - I luckily bought my FK8 before second hand prices went bananas. In 2020 I paid £27,500 for a 2019 model FK8 (10 months old at the time of purchase) with the 5 year service plan. In order to get into the new one I'd have to pay around £23,000 extra. It's too much of a gap for a car that isn't £23k better, although undoubtedly a great car in its own right.

Having driven both I’d say the FK8 is properly bonkers, whereas the FL5 feels more “normal”.

It is still fantastic, but they’ve taken some of the edge off.
