RE: 'Ring Insurance Could Save You £1000s

Well I've researched and better researched, but have yet to come up with anybody that will provide cover for TF. I did speak with a friend of a close friend, someone very high up in a notable insurance company. When he'd stopped laughing, he told me that even he hadn't figured out a way to have a comfortable level of insurance on TF; (he's into his cars and has quite a nice stable).
What I was told though is that people have managed to get insurance in certain very extreme cases. One related, was a director of a company that had a very significant insurance premium covering vehicles, etc. He'd backed the insurance company to the wall and had been given a letter stating he had fully comprehensive cover. To get it he'd basically offered to take his business elsewhere; certainly effective if you've got that much clout, but perhaps not the key factor to look for when making business decisions There could be a few cases like this, where the risk of insuring TF is considered much smaller than the loss if the client moves, but that doesn't help us, the masses.
If anybody knows better than I've found out, or indeed than the multitude of posts above, please give us the facts. There's plenty of smoke and mirrors regarding TF insurance out there and I think it will take some very hard facts to prove that insurance for the masses can be found. For now, I know three cars that aren't going back next year due to the risks

couldn't agree more if the insurance was in place i'd like to go back atleast once a year but as it is I think I'll end up doing more trackdays. +1

On the last thread i read about this subject, someone mentioned your average German insurance policy has third party cover, even for off road events. This means even on German organised trackdays you are required to sign something which states you have insurance to cover third party. If you go to Pistenclub T&C's for a Nordschleife day, it says you have to pay for anything you break! This is why Germans are covered, regardless of the status during TF

I don't know about "insurance for the masses", but I have a policy with Allianz bought through a specialist broker that has a policy designed to cater for the needs of Porsche owners & it explicitly includes 3rd party risks for TF days and also unlimited trackday cover in the UK so long as the organiser is a member of the ATDO or FAEO. The cost was about 70% more than my previous NU policy, but for me it's worth it for the additional cover.Went to the Ring this weekend in my 911 Turbo.... It was my fifth visit.... place still scares the st outa me and after few laps in my 911 that I knew wasn't insured I could sense something was going to go wrong and it would all end in tears...
So popped up to RSR and hired one of their R26R's...
voila... much more fun, and all properly insured!!!!
the next day I hired an old Alfa 75 from them!!! 500Euros for WHOLE DAY! unlimited laps!!!
I've never had more fun at the Ring and will never drive my own car on it again.
Alfas for me all the way now!!!! GREAT handling little things! and I know I am covered properly if it all goes tits up!!!

Well I have been keeping my powder dry on this one to see what turns up. I have been doing the ring most years now for the last 12 years or so. It has been interesting to say the least reading all the posts. I liked this one as it did suggest a way of doing it with out the big payouts should you crash! So popped up to RSR and hired one of their R26R's...

You will need to pay for your own barrier damages and third party claims up to a maximum of €10,000. For damage to our cars the maximum amount payable is as follows; Alfa stage 1 €4000, Alfa stage 2&3 €6000, Clio €8000, R26.R €15000, BMW M3 CSL €20000 and GT3s €50000. Insurance for accident damage is available.
So it is still reasonably exspensive to have a little knock, but you do know the limit, and that is something.
A bill of €14000 (£12,000) worst case. Because lets face it most of us going to the ring do not need anything better than the bottom Alfa they have.
I find that a FAR more acceptable risk than running my own car. You only pay it IF you crash. And theres a good chance if you crash and damage just your own car it'll cost you more than that anyway.
So as always. If you MUST have a crash. Crash a hire car.

Its the personal injury claims against me from some Biker with a death wish and I have to pay him £100,000,0000,000 for a broken finger or something that scared me off using my own car as I KNOW I am NOT insured on the Ring.

All-inclusive packages, they start from €699 in the Clio Cup 197 and you 'get' 10 laps. Extra laps over that are €65 including the extra miles, the fuel and the lap tickets. Most people don't do more than 15 on the very best of days.
We're not pretending that crashing our insured cars is cheap, but bear in mind:
1) Over 90% of our accidents are single car accidents - we had two accident involving another car and a 3rd-party claim.
2) The average guardrail bill last year was about €1100
3) You ARE insured for that horrible "You smashed up my GT2/Lambo/Fezza/Pelvis/6th vertebra" moment.
