Respectable track day lap time for Cadwell park.

When I was there in the summer I was doing around 1:46/1:47 in my Z4M Coupe. When I looked back at the footage after the event I could see I could carry more speed through Coppice (I was braking at the end of the straight), and felt I could do a bit better through Chris Curves.

Watching it makes me realise I need to go back!

Looks good fun, I'm tree next week so hope to have some good laps.
Last time I struggled with Park mainly but had a good spin at Mansfield..
I used to spin or run wide at Mansfield, then found if I braked harder and later, went in deeper, and then cut across the corner it avoided the spins.
Park is another bend where you need to brake later and go way past the turn in cone before you turn in, that way you avoid running out of road on the exit.
All IMHO of course....
And don't change down at the last second either...

I managed a 1:45:5 off the videos I've check so far in a mx5 turbo, looking at the vids plenty of time to be had just depends how close to the line you want to get. I'd like to realistically get into the 1:42/43s next time I'm there. I saw Northern Lads evo 6, on the same day, what a bloody animal! and that z4 sounds awesome really want one of them!
Tim,
It was a great day, weather was kind and ettiquete was spot on....
Are you there on the 14th Nov ? You're welcome to a pax ride, the Evo is currently having further mods.... Oh & a cage Lol
I took a white spec c Subaru to Croft in July to let my son drive.... Im sure you were beside us in the same garage with your pal in the blue Caterham ? I struggled to catch the MX5 on the day..... weapon !
Regards
Chris

I was wondering whether I could go for a lap record for a diesel car without so much as the facade of a sport button, let alone the power to justify one.
How fast is a 2:02 for 105hp diesel weighing at least 1.3t on cheap tyres? Without anything similar to gauge it against I'm struggling to find where I can improve?

Official lap records are set in MSA sanctioned races - ie at race meetings , during races , not even in qualifying . Not on track days. Which you can't time - or are forbidden from doing anyway except by downloading data after your session . If you want to do it properly then get yourself on a sprint or hillclimb event .
If you want some ideas of times then try the HSCC website which will give you lap by lap times for every car last time they went to Cadwell (Wolds Trophy in June ) . It's for historic racers (in which I take an especial interest) but other organising clubs like CSCC and 750 MC , BARC and BRSCC may have similar data.

Can't afford to do this often, and can't even afford tuition, but I'll check the HSCC website, thanks

Caterham C400 with Duratec 235bhp and Quaiffe Sequential box, on Toyo r888s. 1 min 41 secs. I will be able to knock a minimum of another 2 seconds off with slicks.
Spend more time at the track and without slicks you should be able to find a lot more than 2 seconds. It a circuit that you get quicker at with lots of seat time.I’m still off the pace at Cadwell as I’ve only been there twice. I run consistent low 1m39’s in a 140bhp 1.6 k-series Caterham, 5 speed box with open diff on AO48’s.
The fast guys with LSD (1.6 Sigma) are into the 1:36’s and still on AO48’s.
These threads always bring out people with very good lap times as I guess the slower folk don't comment! I'd say in reality anywhere below 1.50 will see you overtaking more than being overtaken and anywhere below 1.40 you'll be constantly catching people to the point of frustration if it's busy.

When EVO tested the R400 with 210bhp they were doing 1.35s - but Messrs Harris and Meaden are very , very fast drivers. No idea what I did in my R400 but judging by my Croft times times about 3 seconds slower than Graduates cars with much less power. I didn't give up the day job , even though entering ..err..Coppice at 100mph -ish made me feel like a god ..at least it did until I saw a slick shod Clubmans car enter 30mph faster... 1:48 seems my best from a review of my vids.
2002 R53 Mini Coopers 250bhp with factory LSD and AD08Rs. Full trim and interior fitted so factory weight (probably more with rear cage). My first time at Cadwell and can't wait to go back!
