Hello there,

Next sunday will be my first outing on track . I was wondering, should I raise, lower or keep the same tyre pressure as for normal road driving (2.2 bar all-round to be precise).
My car is a 2001 Fiat Punto Sporting and I'll be driving around on Circuit Park Zandvoort .

A couple of PSI over the normal rated in the service book is what a lot of people do to stop the tyre wall deforming too much under hard cornering, but bear in mind if you do a few laps you will put heat into the tyres anyway which will raise pressures slightly. So best to take a tyre pressure gauge with to keep an eye on things as you might have to reduce pressure a bit in the middle of a few har sessions.

Bring a foot pump with you as well, as when the tyres cool down, the pressure might go too low for the return journey so need topping up with air.

Aha, so best is to go a bit above normal, say 2.3 or 2.4 bar. I was thinking of raising the pressure near the track. From my house to the track is a 1,5 hour motorway drive, so I must have got some heat in my tires
Am I right in thinking that I don't have to lower the pressure in between if I do this? Or are the forces of driving round the track more brutal and thus give more heat to my tires? (remember, my first trackday. I won't be going that fast)
