Just booked myself on one of this years VXR Trackdays. Shame they have missed out Donnington this year as i dont live far from it but Oulton Park should be good fun instead smile

Was loads of fun last year at Donnington, thrashing round in the new VXR8 smile

So, assuming you aren't the VXR PR rep...how much driving time do you get? How is it decided which car(s) you get to drive? Do the instructors hold you back? The website is a bit lacking in details.

The site says you get 90 minutes of track time. Of course whether that is true or not?

A mate of mine went last year and enjoyed himself, even the Corsa VXR was quite good fun apparently, though time in the VXR8 was limited. I decided to give it a go and booked BH for the Monday pm slot.

Hi, As one of the instructors that has worked on all of the VXR trackdays organised over the last two years, all I can say is, it is one of the best days you will experience for the money you are paying!!

When you arrive, you will be split into two groups, one doing "dynamics" in the paddock area, and the others going on track. Briefings will be given covering both activities, and refreshments are available all day! The groups will change around at around the halfway point, those from track going to dynamics, and vice-versa!

To answer some of your questions, you will have the oportunity to drive the full range of VXR cars, the Meriva, the Corsa, the Astra, the Vectra, the Zafira, & of course the VXR8. You will have around 90 minutes to drive the full range, or selected cars, and the emphasis is on you enjoying the range as they should be driven, in a safe, and fast environment. The majority of instructors will not hold you back, but are there to help you get the best from each and every car. Don't try to show off to the instructors, allow them to help you acheive the best from each car, remembering they WILL slow you down, if you are driving beyond your ability!! If you take a sensible approach, they will have you acheiving speeds that you won't imagine, but will feel smooth and safe. Don't all rush for the VXR8, so many were amazed by how quick and entertaining the Meriva is!!!

For those on "dynamics", again you will have a very enjoyable experience, and Paul Swift will be looking after you during this 90 minute experience. Some of you may know Paul, he is the son of Russ Swift, who was famous for the Montego, and various other TV adverts, parallel parking cars on skyscraper roofs etc etc !! You will be taught "J" turns, parallel parking, and also a competitive autotest.

I wouldn't hesitate in booking, because last year & the previous year, there were so many disappointed people who missed out, so look to book ASAP!!

If anyone wants to ask anymore questions, then please feel free, and before anyone asks, no, I am not a VXR PR man, I am a simple instructor working on your days. Looking forward to meeting many of you opn the days, Howard

Hi Paul,

yes, I was one of Tim Sugdens instructors, and I do remember your name, so please come over and see me on your day at Thruxton. Danny Buxton that also worked on BaRD, should be there as well, I think! I can guarantee you will not be disappointed, and the full range of cars are well suited to track driving, aswell as being very capable road cars. I don't think anyone I encountered on the days had any criticisms whatsoever, and all had big grins on their faces!!!

The information I've given in my previous post is as it was in 2006 & 2007, and I think some of it may be subject to change, but will be for the better, I think.

I just looked in my notes, and I instructed you on the 6th February, in 2006, I think, so look forward to seeing you on the 12th June, best regards, Howard

it's worth pointing out that Vauxhall do not run these days for profit - it costs them hundreds of thousands to run this kind of exercise and the aim is to sell cars - not make £100 here an there. I know a few guys who went last year - seems like excellent value for money IMO.

Hi Paul,

I look forward to seeing you there, and obviously, I'm not sure which car I'll be in, but please look me up.

That is a good point that Jonny has made, in that Vauxhall subsidise these days, by putting a lot of money into circuit hire, and all the relevant overheads involved, and quite honestly, if you were paying the going rate to some commercial organisation, the cost would be £400 to £500 more than you are actually paying!

I'm sure you'll enjoy it immensely,

Howard

It is impossible to say how many places are left, but I would book ASAP. I think you can only book two at a time, so your friends will have to book independently, ..... no way round it unfortunately!

Sounds like a fun, light hearted, and cheap outing on track whilst using someone else’s car/cars.

I’m booked 2 places for Rockingham on the 26th of june. Looking forward to experiencing Rockingham for the first time and getting my hands on those VXR Astra’s.

Right back to work for me now I've wasted my quota of time&money for the day.

I am looking forward to the handling session too, a mate on a VXR day last year enjoyed the '180 handbrake into a parking space' he got to try several times.

myself and my brother booked onto this a few weeks ago- we're doing the am slot at Oulton on the 12th.

Ive never done one before but 95quid seems a good price and im sure it will be well worth the money!

Did a trackday at Oulton in feb and had so much fun- and mamanged to improve immensely with a session of tuition, so im positive that having instructors on hand all day will be fantastic!

Of course, im looking forward to the VXR8, but im certain that the lil corsa will be bags of fun too- cant wait to learn some new skills and hone my lines a bit more!
