Spa 15th April
Discussion
Spa is very hard on tyres, Pouhon is just in a different world.
The weather is 'extreme' by which I mean you can go in to a briefing ready to go, and come out thirty minutes later to see this
This was April 1st a couple of years ago, I'm going back same time this year (but to the Ring instead) so I've not been totally put off, but you need to have a back up plan, even if it's just a favourite restaurant/bar.

I will have my HD Contour camera & AIM data logger on, plus my friend is taking my trackday tyres (AD08) on his trailer with his GT2, so my car will be on road tyres for the journey/wet.
Been told about Eau Rouge at the top & seen it first hand at F1.
Also grown up watching F1 on board shots through Pouhon, so can't wait.
Will be taking my sensible head to make sure I bring the Turbo home in 1 piece.

Not sure who the trackday is with, but if there are instructors on hand early in the day or better still 1st thing, get one onboard even if it's only for a 20 min stint.
I instruct there for a few of the oeganisers that run events at Spa.
So many parts of the circuit can catch you out big time if you don't understand the quirts of the place. Also it will make the rest of the day so much more fun.
Also keep a good check on tyre pressures wet or dry.
Otherwise enjoy it. It is a fabulous circuit, and if you get a chance anytime outside of the trackday, go for a drive around the old road circuit and imagine F-1 and big sports-cars thundering around there at flat-chat for most of the circuit.

Cheers, it's Goldtrack. I instruct there for a few of the oeganisers that run events at Spa.

Instructors are bookable, but not erm, free. Done a few seasons bike racing & pretty decent at picking up new circuits.
Always have a good tyre pressure gauge & inflator on hand.
How abrasive is the circuit Doogalman?
Its not nessesarily abrasive but the wear and temps arise from the very high braking forces into la source, le coombe, rivarge and bus stop. Combined with some very aggressive on tyres high speed corners, mainly pouion and blanchimont both of which they replaced the armco some years ago with concrete barrier because of the high number of incidents. Eau rouge is a complex series of bends and blind crests and apexes that you need to build up to and have your porker on a straight streering lock for the blind crest as you start the transition to the left of radion. In rear engine cars going over and thru radion you need to be on a positve throttle letting the car run wide out to the right, do not lift!!
Still an awesome track. I instruct for RSR and we do a trackwalk prior to driving and people are gobsmacked when they walk eau rouge and discover tge complexity of it.

Not sure if it is across the board but i am instrucying there on the 1st of april, and all entrants have been told that Spa has dictated that all cars require a fire extinguisher. NOT a plumbed in system but any small unit that is in date. May be worth checking with Bookatrack and or just getting one anyway. Even something basic of ebay could be had for 20 quid. You never know when it may be of use.
Hi all. I am new to this forum and also a Spa virgin. I've just booked my place for both the 15th and 16th. I am really looking forward to it after everything that I have heard.
Is there a single hotel that everyone is staying or does everyone scanter at the end of the day?
I'm also looking at going to the Nurburgring on a taxi run. Does anyone have any tips on that?
