I am part of a syndicate with some work collegues to buy a car specifically for trackdays. Obviously we have to get it to and from events, so we need road insurance to cover road risks. I have been attempting to get quotes on a third party, limited mileage basis from (at the moment) a small number of insurers. When I explain that the vehicle will be used on track days, and that I am looking to cover driving to and from an event, not cover whilest on the track, most insurers still decline to quote. Obviously they have been stung in the past, but I am running out of ideas. I have a long list of speciallist insurers to try but wondered if anyone out there has any ideas/suggestions/experience/pet insurance co's to try.

Thanks for any help

Phil.

Well, that's the next topic for discussion with a suitable insurer. There are 6 of us, all with good driving records, so we could all be named drivers. Initally I was looking to insure the vehicle so the others could be covered third party risks on the back of their own policies.

Thanks for the responses so far guys, I have had a couple of quotes from a totally "out-there" £1030 to a much more reasonable £350. The vehicle for those who didn't look at my profile is a Nova with a 2Ltr 16v Astra motor. I will be trying some of the other insurers next week. If you could attach a web address, hyperlink or phone number with suggested insurers that would be great.

The trailer thing has been suggested, not least for the reason of "what happens when we bend it?" and we can borrow one. Problem is none of us have tow-bars, so we would have to borrow a tow barge as well.

As ever I think my mistake was being too honest, and I may "modify" my approach in future enquiries!!
