Silverstone Arena GP (26th of Feb) Advice
Discussion
Just wondering if anyone else is going.
Really haven't done any track day in my car and not too sure if I am jumping head first into a Silverstone GP Track Day.
Anything to watch out for or advice?
Getting the car ready now, putting a tow hook on, and getting the exhaust redone (a bit worry about the noise limit, are they strict on the 102dB drive by over there?)
Anyone else going? Would be great to at least meet someone in the community.

Are you saying this is your first ever track day? Make sure the TDO is aware and book instruction. Silverstone didn't used to let novices on some days and insisted one of their instructors signed you off as ok to drive. Not sure if they've relaxed that a bit now. We won't take first timers there tbh. There are better tracks on which to break your duck!
Ideal venue for a first trackday, very wide with massive run-offs. Speed differential between you and more experienced trackdayers will be massive at the end of the long straights and into the braking zones so have your wits about you.
The part I found hard to build up to was Abbey; the exit is unsighted and you turn in before you see the exit curb. It's full throttle in my car so it is a slight leap of faith at first.
It's a long lap so you might finish the first session and still not know where it goes 100%... I drive lots of different tracks and it took me more than 20 minutes to know where it goes and at that point I was five seconds off the pace.

Got a 20 year old Nissan R32 GTR... and it is a bit loud.
Getting some new silencer in the exhaust now...
There will be more silencer than metal pipe after we are done with it.
I hope to get it under the noise limit... Will have to wait and see.
I done a few track day before, but only at Lydden Hill which is rather small and slow track compare to Silverstone.
I have not explore the car's limit as there is no where save to do so... I guess I just have to take it easy.
I did ask for an instructor but they say they are fully book up... so just have to hire one later on the day.
Just got some new tyres on the car also, therefore it will feel like driving a new car.
Always wanted to drive on Silverstone, like you all say... "THE" F1 circuit.
Should be a fun day out the long as the weather hold up...
Looking at some of the track day video, I will be braking for Stowe around 145mph on a hot lap.
Meanwhile, just trying to learn half the track playing on the X-box
By the way, I done a private hire on a V-box system.
We still have 1 slot left so if anyone is interested, let me know.
It is £100 for the day, but the operator there will only take care of us (total of 3 system)... Just wondering if anyone is interested.

Really? Hope you've got good brakes. Do bung yer video up if you get a chance.Silverstone is a fantastic circuit - providing you get decent weather you'll have a great time. Just keep an eye on your mirrors!

Well, it is forged callipers with 355mm disk all around.Silverstone is a fantastic circuit - providing you get decent weather you'll have a great time. Just keep an eye on your mirrors!
I am actually debating if I need to get brake duct or change brake pad for this event.
I am currently using street pad and they are good up to 500C.
But I do have some race pad sitting in a box that are good up to 750C but they don't work from cold (min efficient temp is 250C)
Anyone have some experience that they can give me some recommendation? Does the brake get very hot at Silverstone?
Bleeding the brake with fresh ATE SuperRacing Blue next week, and hope that should be good to go...
As you can see... I am still a bit nervous as I aren't very good on the Xbox...

I'm going on the 26th, it's my second track day, the first was Brands Hatch last October - really looking forward to it, just hope the weather is reasonable.
I plan to get instruction early on, it was really helpful at Brands Hatch (indy), as the first few laps being a slower driver was quite imtimidating and the instruction really helped to build confidence.
I'll be bringing my M3 along this Sunday too, and can't wait to kick off the 2012 season. Will be attending with a few friends, who'll be filling our garage with Evos and M3s.I plan to get instruction early on, it was really helpful at Brands Hatch (indy), as the first few laps being a slower driver was quite imtimidating and the instruction really helped to build confidence.
I've not driven the new circuit yet, and am really looking forward to it.
Will keep an eye out for you, Shaun, and might come begging for a ride at some point in the day

Done my prep for the event, and put the camcorder on charge last night .... Just gotta lob a sponge over it on Saturday, and screw in the tow eye.
I'll be there
A few bits of prep on thursday, including some new RS29 pads, and the car will be sorted.
Hoping for better conditions than my last day there in December when we were all sliding around on semi-frozen pigs pi$$
Great circuit btw, for those driving there for the first time.
