Derestricted autobahn recommendation
Discussion
Hello all!
I'm planning a trip through Europe and have the tail end of the week allocated to Germany (starting Austria, heading up to Adenau, stopping at a few nice hotels in between).
Does anyone have experiences of bits of derestricted autobahn between the bottom and top that's good as a super highway blat.
I know that not all autobahns are derestricted and would feel a right plonker to get on one with a speed limit. Alternatively, can someone point me in direction of a resource that can provide this information?
Cheers

Patrick's Autobahnatlas should give you all of the information.

Thanks JC, however the lack of ability to interpret anything in German negates the value of this site (to me) somewhat!

I'd concur that A7, and A81 (S of Stuttgart) are nice.
Another spot that can be quite good is A5, between Darmstadt and F'furt, specifically between J 23 and 25, in front of the airport. Yes, often the traffic makes real progress difficult. However...for the stretch bet 23 & 25 it is 4 lanes/side, and effectively dead-flat and dead-straight for 5 miles. I went at dawn on a June Sunday and was able to do quite a few Vmax runs untroubled.
This is the site where, in '38, Rosemeyer and Caracciola went at it for the (public road) land speed record. Hitler had ordered the road closed for the day for this purpose.
First up, RC, did 432 clicks in his M-B (which nowadays is usually on show at M-B Museum). Then it was Rosemeyer's turn. Nearing Vmax, his car was caught by a crosswind or other aerodynamic problem, went into the air, and that was that.
At the northbound service area near J 24, there is a memorial to him.
