I have applied on a whim, would be quite a pay cut initially but a bit sick of being in the police!

the website doesnt give much detail about how the scheme works or how you would progress.

Has anybody on here got any further info?

Haha Ed, you're not the only one! Intending to get my application in this week.

Good luck to those applying! Unfortunately not me as I would fail the medical due to my hearing. Pardon :-)

How you progress through the ranks so to speak? Also, being a copper will obviously give you a great amount to talk about, reflect on etc etc etc.

Just applied online. Site said I would find out soon after the 22nd of July. The more I think about it the more it seems like a great job. It didn't say which areas were covered - hoping they have a yard within commuting distance of Manchester.

ETA - rather surprisingly I have discovered they have a yard about 3 miles from where I live! smile

This could turn out rather well!

Awesome news-I wish I lived so close to my depot! Hopefully in a few years my commute wil be down to an 8minute walk! Earlies, what earlies?

Anyway, I'm buzzing to be at work again tomorrow! What a weirdo haha!

Possibly a very silly question, and it may result in this:

but....

Are you allowed to listen to music or the radio when you're driving a train? paperbag

It was a half serious question. Are you allowed smart phones in your cab? Obviously you wouldn't use them when driving. Just bear in mind that everything I know about driving a freight train I learnt from this movie:

hehe

Thinking about it, that movie is creepily similar to what recently happened in Canada....

I only said it was amazing as I had posted that from my iPhone and thought you'd somehow worked it out haha!

Smartphones are allowed in cabs, but off. I just put mine on airplane mode and then switch it off and then put it in my bag. Belts and braces eh biggrin

Emeye - if you want specific questions answered etc etc PM me thumbup

I'm interested if anyone on here who has been successfully, or applied, come from an IT background like me? If not, what did you do before?

Hi,

I applied and I'm coming from an IT background, reading around it doesn't seem to be that uncommon.
Good luck to everyone that applied smile

You need to keep an eye on the career pages of your local/preferred TOC if you're not already doing so.
