There are a flurry of jobs that are perfect for me, and I have been waiting a while, but now I am rapidly running out of reasons to get to the interview.

At the moment I am not allowed off at the same time as another one of five people, and it is holiday season. I could get a few hours here and there, but I have to have good reasons.
The boss recently decided he must have proof if there is a doctor’s appointment, and they are working two weeks in advantage, so difficult to get an appointment at the right time and cancel it, as they usually want to see you asap.

Again I could try this with the dentist, but don’t have a dentist set up, probably my current last option at the moment.

I have been asking for evening interviews, but I know I have missed out on one already because I was not flexible enough on the timings.

I don’t want to take a sickie, but have already had to do this once to get to the interview. I am up for second, but just can’t keep doing this. It is not fair on my other colleagues and not really fair on my current company as well.

So What other ways are there to get to interview?

p.s. There are another potentially two jobs which I will be getting interviews for.

I feel your pain! I don't like the idea of pulling a sicky as im sure that would come back to bite me. If you are dead dead set on another job and you have some savings then a possibility is to just jack in the job at the moment and hit the other ones really hard....its a gamble mind!

my boss or the new companies?

My mate suggested last night that as I had the names of the managers from the companies I should give them a ring directly and explain. It shows I am keen. So I am ringing them today.

Aim to do lunchtimes, evenings, early mornings. Some people will even do Saturday mornings if they're keen.

Failing that then you need to take a morning, afternoon or whole day off, and make sure you get as many relevant interviews as possible on that day.

When contacting the managers make them aware of your problem, and ask if it would be possible to do first and second stage interviews and any assessments etc that day so as to make the most of the time you take off.

Booking them a week or two in advance shouldn't be a problem, that's quite a normal time frame anyway. Whether you take a days leave or throw a sickie is up to your circumstances and your conscience.

I vaguely remember there being a rule that an employer had to give you time off work for alternative interviews. But that they could schedule it to meet their needs. Obviously this can backfire. An old manager discovered I'd gone from an interview (no proof but suspect 1 person there!) and our relationship deteriorated very quickly after that. Shame, I never had a problem with the guy until then. But he evidently felt betrayed.

On a side note, after work time has worked for me in the past. I've come out of work at 5 for an interview elsewhere at 6. IME managers (who tend to be interviewers) tend to work late if they can recruit good staff.
