To be fair my 50d goes quite well up to 150!

Exactly and that’s the point of manual mode you can use he torque of the gear vs changing down.

The M5 has plenty of torque and likewise when driving a stick shift you don’t drop it like it hot into the lowest possible gear each and every time you want to make progress no most of the time i is enjoying that wall of torque which is then overtaken by power and the engine note gardens and bellows then screams into a crescendo.

When I first got the M5 I drove it like a big diesel. The torque is not dissimilar to a 535d or A6 BiTDi and the power levels at lower revs are also similar.

Driven in that way, it feels pleasant, but weighty.

You really do need to use the gears to truly experience this car. If you floor it at 70 in 5th, you will move forward briskly, much as you would in a big diesel.

Dropping it to 3rd is a very different story. It will absolutely leap forward and you will be doing 100mph in seconds.

When you work the gears manually or put the auto box in a more sports oriented setting, it feels as if the car has shed half its weight. It really comes alive.

Agreed and unused to almost exclusively drive mine in manual from the moment I started the engine.

Driving enthusiastically through gears where you can (abroad!) was bloody brilliant wobble

After 4 years with an M5 F10 I can say for sure it is an excellent vehicle. Seriously fast, versatile, comfortable and looks great. Running 740bhp it's more power than you can deploy safely most of the time. Routine servicing only at very reasonable rates, tyres last 25k miles and if driven steadily at legal speeds like this 90 mile journey on motorways gives 32.7mpg. That's pretty good I think.

For what is a 560 bhp car, it can be very economical and has a good cruising range (also thanks to a decent sized 80 litre fuel tank).

I only got rid of mine due to the need for a more practical car (transporting a large dog, and even having a special "Rhino" cover for the rear seats, it was not an ideal solution), and the F90 M5 in my opinion, if anything, has just emphasised what a bargain the F10 M5 is.

Boring to talk about MPG and range with the M5 but I almost made it to Switzerland from Folkestone on a single tank (mostly with cruise at 75ish). Which I was quite impressed with.

Although that was only ~29MPG so not the ~33 above or BMW's quoted figure either!

And, yes, the acceleration from ~70-150 is ridiculous for a boring saloon.

Oh, and I finally got rid of the P Zeros on mine for PS4S recently, the difference in grip is massive.

If anyone wants two part-worn P Zero fronts, let me know. They've only done ~5000 miles.

Agreed the difference is incredible.

Mine was on brand new Pirellis when I bought it and I was wheelspinning everywhere. The Michelins are a massive improvement.

Same on my M5 and 997 - moved to Michelin PSS and the car(s) we’re totally different.

I have no idea how Pirelli can consistently manufacture such ste tyres!

I've decided to sell mine after a brief ownership period.

All the positives above I totally agree with but, as I mentioned in another thread I didn't realise the split fold seats weren't standard and it's causing major issues for me.

So if anyone fancies a 2 owner mintbox then let me know

I've stuck it on ebay but had nothing but px's and nobheads so I'll stick it on PH this weekend

Finally got to drive mine on my own and was able to throw it down a few fast A-roads. I was absolutely astonished - not just at the punch and how it puts on speed (my previous F-Type R has spoiled that for me), but how agile it is and how clever the adaptive suspension seems to be. A few times I was ready to open the steering when going over a big bump on a turn but the car just adjusted itself and cornered flat. The Jag would have been no-where near as composed. Also, braking hard downhill on a bumpy surface was mega - again the car was docile and steerable, and didn't show signs of locking up or running out of travel.

It really is the most complete car I've ever driven. This and something like an Elise are the two-car garage I'm aiming for next. I think the F10 will be a keeper.

Mine left me last week after 3 years and I would agree with all of the above. Brutally fast and comfortable, the only things that started to grate were other road users, speed cameras, the sheer size and the lack of traction.

Awesome, awesome cars and the value will go up as of last week as mine is now gone! (always, always happens..)

Enjoy!

Can it not be retro fitted?

Possibly but I imagine the parts are hard come by and not cheap.

And would involve removing the big sheet of metal between the boot and the cabin. Just not worth it.

It's a shame and annoying that BMW and Mercedes do this. Peugeot used to as well, my old 405 didnt have split sold seats.

Will you be looking for an M5 with them?

Yeah, I just took it as the 'norm' as all BMWs Ive owned (apart from my z3mc) have had this feature.

I'm not sure really if I'm going to seek out another - It was a minefield finding this one as I'm extremely picky and a lot of them were st when viewed up close - full of chips at the front end and all needing brakes or tyres that type of thing.

Never been a Mercedes fan tbh. Not sure why; just never appealed to me.

As it's a daily and school run use car I might just get something estatey and fairly sedate.

Frustratingly enough, I sold my F07 GT to make way for this and with hindsight the GT was perfect; I just wanted out of the Diesel ownership as I sensed values about to plummet.
