Never been a Mercedes fan tbh. Not sure why; just never appealed to me.

As it's a daily and school run use car I might just get something estatey and fairly sedate.

Frustratingly enough, I sold my F07 GT to make way for this and with hindsight the GT was perfect; I just wanted out of the Diesel ownership as I sensed values about to plummet.
Perfect except not having the 4.4hot V bi turbo engine

It really is the most complete car I've ever driven. This and something like an Elise are the two-car garage I'm aiming for next. I think the F10 will be a keeper.

There you go , sorry about the mess - oh and there is a properly quick 3rd car hiding in there too smile

Awesome. I am going to have to get an elise now.

What's the thing in the middle? Some kind of single seater?

Nice S1 smile
I have a 211 to go with my M5. Both awesome cars from opposite ends of the spectrum.

Am I right in thinking that’s the special version the 30Jarah?

Good luck!

I’ve only had time wasters and possible fraudsters (“I’ll send an agent to collect the car and will pay via PayPal”) come through Pistonheads while trying to sell my M5.

On previous occasions (with different cars) it’s been a totally different experience, andnI’ve sold the cars without any issues whatsoever.

I touted mine around a few traders who I know very well and they were completely honest and said outside the dealer network they are extremely hard to shift. I also tried two BMW dealers and neither were interested either.

WBAC prices are unfortunately pretty much the reality. An expensive lesson for me but all cars at this level are the same I suppose.

How did you sell your car in the end?

I voluntarily terminated the agreement. I had tried to get out of it before the term as I'm getting a hybrid through work but unless I put circa 10k down it wasn't going to happen. The depreciation really is fierce, I knew what I was getting into but I really didn't anticipate how upside down I ended up.

I'd have to agree that outside the dealer network prices are low...

Took a bit of a hit on mine - trade ins were being offered at 22k, finally sold it privately yesterday for 24.5k (2011 plate, low miles, good options)

I think it's in the range of slightly too expensive for most cash buyers, slightly too risky for most people without a warranty, and slightly too cheap and old for people with enough cash! So people want main dealer + finance in order to purchase.

I think this is pretty much spot on.

Yeah I've had my fair share of fkpigs so far.

Everything sells at the right price so I'll see how it goes and reduce accordingly over time

I'll be going to the main dealer for one for the warranty, but I'll be going with cash, though may finance and pay off if I can get a better deal.

Buy mine, it is covered by BMW's most comprehensive warranty tongue out and, according to hpivaluations.com, my car would be listed for over £5,000 more on the dealers forecourt.

From a buyers perspective

Take me for instance - I’m pretty much sold on getting the F10 M5.

However buying privately means
1. I have the hassle of then selling my own car privately which is time hassle etc
2. Private cars are sold as seen - sure you can get HPI checks etc but the risk is a lot higher. There is no comeback to the seller no cooling off period no oh guess what actually the engine is ruined due to previous owners usage etc.
3. Many owners request evidence of specific insurance taken out for he Day for the car — now if viewing a number on a day that’s actually not an insignificant cost. V trader off you go zero cost.

Buying from a forum member should be superior v joe Bloggs - but then again they are still joe Bloggs

Surely the solution is to run it for another year to bring its value down lower / into the realms of people’s affordability.

For me, I wouldn't entertain spending that amount of money on any private car, never mind an M5.

For better or worse I want a dealer backed warranty, and the saving for going private simply isn't enough for me.

From what I can see dealers asking price for the F10 M5’s are low to mid £30’s but they certainly are not shifting them quickly at all.

Private seem to be £24k asking price upwards.
If you want the old shape M5 there is a floor to the entry so I guess you could opt for the E60 instead which would be mid teens for a good one
