You can`t polish a TURD!
It is not a turd though? is it?

You just do not like the styling or whatever.

Sorry sir - it is a turd - albeit one rolled in M-Glitter.
Why? Why is it a turd then?
Because it's hideous. An eyesore. A carbuncle.

As is a Cayenne, as is a Q7. As is that Ssanyong thing. Compared with, say most of the Range Rovers which actually look OK, the Touareg which looks inoffensive, and even the X5 which has mellowed with age from its original nasty garden-shed profile.

This is nothing to do with it being a PH-type car - it may very well handle well, and be "one in the eye" to the greens. The problem is that it's "one in both eyes" to everyone else as well.

And based on the relative absence of these turds from the streets of London, it looks like this isn't just my opinion, but even that of the taste-deficient Cayenne-owning fraternity as well.

The law should definitely allow these type of cars to be sold. Just as long as they are only type-approved with some sort of urban camouflage paint, or are restricted to being on the streets between the hours of 4 and 6am, and ideally just in Cheshire.
Entirely opinion. Does not explain why it is a turd.

Of course it's opinion. My opinion is that turds are ugly too. Maybe your sense of aesthetics are different, but I'm not forced to visit your bathroom to experience your transparent loo.

However, given that it seems that people are failing to buy this gorgon in droves, I'd say that it's likely to shift from "opinion" to "consensus", then to "received wisdom" and ultimately to "historical fact".

I wasn't actually looking to get into a hand bags at ten paces scenario at all. So I'll disregard the unimaginative and immature school yard jibe.

How is my analogy not appropriate? Despite my gay porn star name I know I don't want to become an uphill gardener without having 'a test drive', I also know I wouldn't enjoy it. However for those who like that sort of thing its probably the best thing since sliced bread. I hope you understand now?! So, if I had the money, fancied driving fast, tall and intimidating 4x4 come coupe's then the X6 would be the car for me.

As I also said in my post, after seeing one in the flesh I'm actually in the minority who think its an awesome, brutal looking machine... I'm a fan! This is despite not 'getting it'.
I think you missed thewink

that's not what I am saying

to get away from the gay analogy I'll give you a different, more simple example - book reviews

how can you give a considered review of a book without having read it?

you can't just say it's poor without having read it, much like saying that the car is rubbish without having driven one

I don't understand why PH'ers who drown in cash and want a car for every occasion don't say "I'll buy one of these for the wife, and buy a lightweight, hardcore track-day car for myself". It is not worse looking than any other SUV.

I am also a bit worried about the aesthetic sense being displayed in the PH forums. No matter which car is launched, there are always scores of people announcing that it is "hideous" or "fugly". Like if that is relevant in any circumstance; ALL cars are ugly! Take a look around next time you are in or around heavy traffic! I bet you won't find anything else than eye-blights!

The thing about cars is that they are big and loathsome lumps of metal that pollutes the environment and costs ridiculous amounts of money! Each and every one of them, including the so-called green cars. The production and transport of one hydrogen fuel-cell pollutes more than one year of Birmingham (estimate)! Just to make this clear: Jennifer Lopez is beautiful, [insert any car here] isn't.

The appeal of any car is therefore not related to any autonomous value of the car itself.

Think about that, the next time you waste your and everyone else's time by proclaiming that this and that car is ugly.

Asthetically it is pleasently vulgar.

By turd I interpreted that as "all" the car was st.

There's always going to be someone who will make a comment about a vehicle to provoke a reaction. Thank the gods no one has started another fwd/4wd/awd/rwd war. However I would say the consensus regarding the images of the cars I posted is that they are beautiful cars. When not in financial strife I buy cars with the heart then the head. Yes, I loved the look of my Mazda! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Someone out there thinks Kelly Brooke is fugly too but the majority would disagree.

Personally I dislike the amount off road vehicles used as road cars they are heavy dont handle to well and are not safe for the average driver to be in control of. However every time I drive one across a field or up a muddy lane I remember why they are great.

Also in the era of green is good I applaud car makers with the strength to build such ugly abominations with the power to demolish hot hatched and in a straight line make very fast cars think have I left the handbrake on.

I would never buy one of these as a main car but the idea of fast off roaders makes me grin everytime I see one. Especially the big ones like the Cayenne Turbo.

But the question is, how much did you pay for her?!

Going back to the flame war, didn't Evo take both an Elise and a Cayenne (or was it an ML63) on track and the SUV won?
