It did not come home with me.
Getting sick of going to look at supposed mint, immaculate, the best you will see cars that just aren't.
The search continues.
You need to add another £2000 to your budget for anything approaching mint.Getting sick of going to look at supposed mint, immaculate, the best you will see cars that just aren't.

You missed the boat last year so to speak
Customer of mine has a proper mint one, which may be coming up for sale at the end of the month. Estoril blue, silver leather, 66k with fsh standard and properly immaculate. It will be around the 10k mark, may be interested myself before it goes public but my garage is rather full so no decisions either way just yet.
Just to add to that. I picked up my 1998 techno violet Evo saloon last year for just under £4000. In 14 months I've spent just under £5000 getting it to my standard. I've still yet to get the wheels refurbished and I'm putting two new front wings on it in the winter as it has the common wing rust.
This was the best of 6 Evo saloons I looked at over four months as well with a full BMWSH. I don't think I'd let it go for less than £7500 as it's just awesome!

Concur with the above. In 2009 I bought a vgc 98 Evo coupe in Atlantis Metallic - haggled on the price and paid low £6k range. I proceeded to spend the same again on maintenance (vanos repair, exhaust header fix, tyres, wheel refurb, air con fix, servicing etc) and mods (stereo, bushes, m3 cab under engine brace etc). I will say that I am fussy and don't do much of the work myself - I had a spare set of wheels but didn't do anything financially crazy like put a supercharger on it!
I ended up selling it to a guy from South Africa who gave the best bid unseen and shipped it down (local market value of cars there about double the UK).
Not what the op wants to hear but you will defo have a lower overall ownership cost if you get the best car upfront. Unless you get extremely lucky or do all the work yourself, this does mean paying more. But look on the bright side - if you buy something that is intrinsically worth more then it should also hold more value.
I bought an e92 m3 this year and even then saw cars marketed as 'mint' / 'best on the market mate' etc and were clearly not that in the flesh...
If you're travelling, don't take the sellers word for it - try to get as many pics as possible.
Good luck!

The picture hides my hair loss quite nicely I'm 28 so probably quite a youngun for this type of car. But my Dad used to own a BMW Approved repair shop and used to repair transit damage on them. I had the luck of sitting in them when they were still factory wrapped hence why I always wanted to scratch the itch.NelsonR32 said:

Saloons are the rarest by far,but they do look better with the contour alloys fitted..evojam said:

Yer boot badge isn't on right
yep - it does look a weird in the pick - but it's on straight in real life...honest!been looking at the respray pics on your thread.....money well spent.
i know mine's a less fashionable convertible, but it suits my needs. bought it with 60k on it 7 - 8 yrs ago - it's now on 125k+ and gets used daily at present. i'll never sell it.....Not because it's valuable but because i always wanted one....I've had well over 100 cars including about 20 or more e30s but this one is a keeper. It still puts a smile on my face and is plenty quick enough for my driving skills!

Personally, I've never quite got the convertible M3. Even e30 M3 cabs seem a bit daft and more show than go.
yeah - mine's a terrible car - especially with all this dreadful weather we've had this summer. [/quote]
I'm not saying it's a terrible car at all. In fact I'm sure it's very nice. It's just that for me, the whole ethos of the M3 doesn't quite fit with that of a convertible. As I've said, that's just my feeling on the matter and opinions are like arsoles.

don't worry mark - my response was v tongue in cheek. I agree with you in many ways. it shakes around like mad on poorly made up roads and carries the equivalent of two fat blokes in extra weight with all the body and sill strengthening so it's no rocket ship -it's very much a compromise. But for the two weeks of the year the usually constitute the British summer it's worth every penny!
Funnily enough i don't get the whole E30 M3 thing at all (cab or coupe). I've had one - found it rather underwhelming...i hated it being LHD on UK roads and think the prices for what it is, are simply ludicrous. I know many people will slate me for this, but it's just my opinion.......So i fully agree with you on the aholes comment!
I think they demand a style of driving that isn't suited to UK or public roads, in order to get the best of them. I know I found it hard to get used to using 6k revs to get any power, when I'd been used to a wall of torque from the 2.8 six pot. That said, I much prefer the feel of an e30 over subsequent models and I think e36 look a bit lardy by comparison. That said, they've aged really well and an e36 without spoilers is actually a really nice shape. The e30 however, looks all the better for having the motorsport related add ons. I've never been bothered about LHD, except at tolls and I solved that with a bit of cardboard tubing from a roll of carpet. The worst thing about an e36 though, is the Vadar interior which looks bloody awful. I agree with you on the price thing for e30 though. So many e30 M3 don't ever get used for fear of owners hurting their investment. I just don't see the sense of owning any car and not driving it. You may as well just have a photo or a model. It's sad that e30 M3 have been priced out of the hands of most enthusiasts and become things to polish occasionally and take out on a sunny afternoon. There are always exceptions though and I liked the fact that Chris Harris took the car I sold him and went rallying with it.
