Put down an M2 deposit today
Discussion
Talked to the sales guy where I ordered mine and he said that dealers will be advised of their 2016 allocations on November 3rd. Until then they don't know how many cars they will get or which build slots so at this time it is impossible to provide any commitments regarding availability or delivery dates. Keeping my fingers crossed...
Im in the LLB corner today. Probably white tomorrow. Just hoping we see more in public pics before I have to make the final choice.
Haven't discussed discounts yet, actually haven't even been into the dealer. Just ordered over the phone. I doubt they will offer anything if the rumour is true they are only getting 3 in 2016.

Just put a refundable deposit down on one of these on the basis that i) I think it may be a cracking car and perfect for my needs at the moment, and ii) I was informed that the dealer had been made aware today that their allocation was 1, yes 1, for 2016 as supply is being limited by BMW.
Don't wish to appear alarmist as this sounds like typical sales closure tactics to me - but I'd be quite interested to hear what others are being told by dealers from today about availability and allocations etc

Cooper dealers seem to have got 3 each. All the ones I spoke to have had deposits on their 3 for 2015.
It's a difficult decision for me now.
1. Put a deposit on M2 and wait for a car they might not even build any more of.
2. Wait for a 0% finance deal on M3 saloon (Although my commute increases next year and I'm not sure I can hack under 23 mpg any more)
3. Get an RS3 saloon when the facelift A3 arrives (probably cost as much as an M3 though as nothing is standard).

Not sure what the official figures are but would be slightly surprised if an M2 was much better on fuel than the latest M3? Can certainly see the appeal of an M2 but if getting hold of one proves difficult I don't think fuel consumption would put me off the latest M3/M4; would have thought they'd do better than 23mpg unless you were doing short-runs and/or lots of stop-start work round town (or ringing its neck all the time!). My dealer is still waiting to hear from BMW UK despite being told that they would know by close of business yesterday. Apart from the above post re Coopers has anyone else had confirmation of allocation?
Just recived this from Coopers too:"Hi, no news yet on build slots, soon as we do I will let you know. We haven't got any yet given to us, waiting for system to update. Regards"
So I guess we're all still waiting.
Deposit in, order form is in. Apparently am the only one to have done so for the car at the dealership.. surprising as it's an M dealer and they say they sell quite a few M cars and had 2 M4s in the showroom.. But there you go. Another dealer I phoned told me they expected 4 cars for 2016 and they were all gone.. so I guess it's a bit of luck. After I turned down a GT4 slot which has probably "costed" me 30k by the look of premiums paid at the mom...
I've just read this of the M2:
The new BMW M2 comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, featuring dry-sump lubrication and an engagement speed control function that blips the throttle on downshifts and lowers the engine's revs on upshifts.
I seriously hope that it doesn't have that. That's what a manual 'box with a clutch is all about.

Same as M3/M4. You can turn it off.The new BMW M2 comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, featuring dry-sump lubrication and an engagement speed control function that blips the throttle on downshifts and lowers the engine's revs on upshifts.
