Had a good chat with Evolve myself. Seem very clued up. Apparently they've known even standard 135is go 'limp' if taken on track. They've had no problems with road cars but insist on extra/improved cooling if they're modding for track use. sound like real 'belt & braces' guys, which I like.
I can confirm that you don't have to take a 135 on track for it to go into Limp mode. I did a 3 day Welsh weekend last weekend and my 135 went into limp mode twice on the Friday after giving it a good seeing to in the Black Mountains. Saturday and Sunday were fine with no reduced power issues and I will still going some. It just didn't like the on/off power on full boost in second on the run up the mountains.
I was worried at the time but I have done about 500 miles in the car since it happened and all seems to be normal. It did sound funny whilst in Limp mode though. Almost as if the exhaust was blowing.
Apologies to detract from the excitement and pictures of first deliveries. I am very jealousm, just thought I would share my limp mode story with you all

black mountains are awesome fun have taken the E21 there on multiple occasions. no overheating issues though, but even though i was driving it rather hard, i doubt i was going very fast compared to you I did a 3 day Welsh weekend last weekend and my 135 went into limp mode twice on the Friday after giving it a good seeing to in the Black Mountains. .....It just didn't like the on/off power on full boost in second on the run up the mountains....
I'd wager that's exactly what it was..... hard running on boost in high ambient air temp creates excess intakes temps and oil temps causing the ECU to go into limp mode to avoid engine damage.

Oil temp needle didn't rise above 120 degree and OAT was about 18 degrees......It just didn't like the on/off power on full boost in second on the run up the mountains....

LOL @ Breadvan. - Can't wait to see the pics btw
Managed to get a half hour test drive of a 1M today, all I can say is wow! In the flesh it looks amazing (even in white!) and those wheels really make the car. The exhaust sounds very fruity for a standard system especially when cold. The car only had 200 miles so I didnt redline it but it seemed to have a nice linear power delivery with lots of lowdown torque. Handling wise it had a firm but comfortable ride and around the corners it was very impressive, I would love to drive one around a track. Overall I loved the car and even though it didn't seem much quicker than my current car, around the bends it would certainly pull away. In fact, I was so impressed I ordered a VO there and then (anyone want buy a Focus RS in August, cheap!!).

Sounds like you've had a good day! You've been lucky, not only getting an early drive, but also bagging what surely must be one of only a few left, can't see them lasting much longer?
Enjoy.

Indeed. Yesterday my dealer told me that he had just had to turn an order away in that morning. Apparently all 450 cars now sold. In reality this will mean there are still a few available but they'll be cars already allocated to dealers - demo's and the like.Enjoy.

As I have said may times, this car will be a hoot to drive - as BMW have said, a bit like the E30 M3.
However, I do think BMW will release an evolution/sport/light version of the 1M at some stage to push the envelope that much further.
Not on this version of the 1 series though? I agree you could be right though (I hope so). This attempt could well be BMW feeling the temp of the waters - and they must surely be encouraged. However, I do think BMW will release an evolution/sport/light version of the 1M at some stage to push the envelope that much further.

Time is running out for that though.....Unless they allocate a batch of cars of the line and put them into storage for later modification, like Ford did with the Sierra RS500's.

Hi does anyone know if there is a VO car at any of the London/Surrey dealers?
Before I commit to black, I feel like I need to see VO in the flesh, thanks to the various comments above about people changing to it!!
I have been told by a forum member that one was being prepped at Barons of Hindhead the other day. I am taking a gamble by going over there this afternoon as they are 15 minutes away from my office. Before I commit to black, I feel like I need to see VO in the flesh, thanks to the various comments above about people changing to it!!
I have seen it which was why I changed from AW to VO last week however I am still incredibly nervous following some awesome AW and BSM pics so would like to see it again.
BMW HQ did confirm that they had removed the AW and VO from their offices in Bracknell but could not tell me which dealers would have cars got the Drive and launch event thus weekend.
Anyone else have any more info?

Probably a stupid question, but, what's in it for the dealer to run a demonstrator of a car that's not available to buy?Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
