I think quite a number of the 1M's are from traded in 135i, so I guess values will be less for a while as dealers will have a larger than usual stock of them in the system....?
Probably only the newer DCT 135's won't so as affected as much as the 1M is MT only.
I'm hoping the next gen 1M (most likely called a M2) will be want I'll be trading in my 135i for in 3-4 years time
Mines a White 135i DCT with a bunch of performance carbon bits (apron, spoiler, mirrors) as well as the stewing wheel and style 313 alloys. Still not a great trade-in value but I'm too weary of private sales.Probably only the newer DCT 135's won't so as affected as much as the 1M is MT only.

Also call me old fashioned but I love the manual transmission in the 1M. Dct is v nice, don't get me wrong, but I feel it removes part of the driving experience and you feel less connected to the car...
(god that must sound like some of the cheesy lines in BMW's marketing campaigns)

DCT is a good half way house between a conventional auto and a manual for me, especially given the speed of the DCT which as I'll be doing the odd competitive sprint event is a bonus over a MT, where the chance of a fluffed gearchange can make a big difference.

given the choice between the 2 cars, i'd be really torn. if i didn't need back seats i'd probably take the cayman. but then it's 10k more so i don't know!!

Took delivery of mine today.stunned.I am lucky enough to have had a few nice cars including a couple of E92 M3's which I loved but in my utterly unqualified opinion this car is a different basis.I have an R8 V10 currently too which is fantastic, and I know I'm only one day into 1m ownership, but I honestly am struggling to think of when I'd take it out over the 1M...it's that good...

I know the feeling!!! Glad to hear I'm not alone in my opinion...There has been lots of doom and gloom about the demise of N/A engines but Evo put the characteristics of the 1M turbo engine ahead of the E92 for most day to day driving.
Will be interesting what they make of the new M5 when it comes out and also interesting to contemplate what the next gen M3 might be like.

it's merely 10bhp down, whilst it weighs less so gives it better power/weight ratio i believe. so in that respect, the 1M does do well considering it has about 10% or so less power/weight. so which is the better chassis i wonder! about 200kgs lighter and not that much quicker....?

Quite right, the Cayman has a better power:weight ratio based on the published numbers but I just wonder what the engine in the 1M actually makes. The reason I say that is the twin-turbo units in the 335i were often known to make rather more than the quoted 306bhp (seem to recall people saying 320bhp+ was not uncommon) so that being the case will the 1M's claimed 335bhp prove conservative? Also worth noting that in terms of torque:weight the 1M has the advantage over the Cayman which presumably helps it to get out of the slower corners a bit better? given the choice between the 2 cars, i'd be really torn. if i didn't need back seats i'd probably take the cayman. but then it's 10k more so i don't know!!

The consensus of the EVO team seems to be that the Cayman has the best chassis (best handling road car they've ever driven!) and looking at the laps of the different cars it seems the Porsche was able to carry more speed through most of the corners on the track. However, as a road car I think I'd go with the 1M as it sounds real world fun and useable for far more of the time. To all those who've taken or are about to take delivery, ENJOY!

Wife was talking to the dealer about her order and it was mentioned that someone else has enquired about a 1M and he can't get them one.
Looks like they might all be just about gone.
Isn't dealer allocation limited though...?Looks like they might all be just about gone.
One dealer might have been allocated say, 5, and sold all of them, whereas another dealer might have only got an allocation for 3, and yet might only have sold 2.
I think, if some one really wants one, it's a case of ringing around every dealer, and I'm sure you could get one.
I suspect though, within a month or so they will all be gone.

One of the German tuners have had one on a dyno already, and it showed a flywheel corrected figure of 347hp, so there is a chance that they could be "conservative" by 10-15hp.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
