Would there be much difference in fuel consumption over 10k miles between a Z4MC and M3 E92 with mixed driving (60% motorway)?

yes.

I can get 34MPG out of my Z4M with the cruise control set to 75mph.

I cannot imagine a 414bhp V8 in a car weighing about 400kg more could get the same...

I own a Z4MC but had an E92 M3 for 5 weeks last summer. My Z4MC typically averages between 20-22mpg. The M3 was averaging around 17-19mpg... not massive, but still noticeably more with the mileage I do.

I have had a Z4M Roadster for just under 6 months. I have averaged 23/24 mpg over all my driving ... Surrey, mainly non motorway but about a third dual carraigeway.

There is a difference between the two. I had a E90 M3 for just under a year and the best I ever got was 27MPG but that was when I was trying to get good MPG (60 mile trip mainly on motorways). Around town you are looking at anywhere between 14-18MPG and early to mid 20s on the motorway. The Z4MC is slightly better, I avg 32MPG on the motorway and mid twenties around town.

How light is your foot? The most I have seen out of a full tank is 320 miles in my E92 and that was on a run through Europe. I have averaged 20.1mpg over 14k in 9 months. If your having a lot of fun then under 200 miles per tank is realistic yikes

My M3 DCT hovers between 21-22. Half the tank is used on short trips to the gym and back, and half is motorway into the office. Overall I am pleased and whats a few mpgs anyway.

I'm getting my E92 M3 delivered this afternoon, after having the M5 for over a year it will be a welcome mpg improvement smile

My e92 averages 19.8 now with mostly central london driving, I'm happy with circa 20mpg for that engine in town.

E90/92 M3 is circa 1700kgs cab is closer to 1900kgs. Z4MC is 1466kgs so the difference is more like 240kgs.

For a 350bhp sports car the Z4M is very frugal!

I've had my E92 DCT for nearly a year, average 17.6 mpg after 8000 miles.

I very much doubt you'd see much over 22 - 24 mpg even if you really tried, but I may be wrong.

Check again, the unladen EU weight is 1655kgs which has an allowance for luggage, driver and fuel, actual dry weight is around 1560kgs, the old Z4M was over 1400kgs so nowhwere near the difference originally quoted

my maths were "approximate" - i.e. i thought the Z4M was about 1400, the M3 1800 - as it was, i wasnt that far out, and if you want to argue specifics, fine, but the raw basis of my post (i.e. bigger, heavier car with larger capacity engine is less economical)

that answers the question - for you, 4MPG might be neither here nor there, but it might be for the OP.
