have heard there is a brake modification which sorts this problem.
the car has been in today , not fixed as a part is required. its the wheel bearings apparently according to a BMW.People who've had them changed have had the problem recur.
The report from BMW Technical cites an issue related to the front calipers...
Up-date....
Elms have fitted different pads at the front, as advised by BMW Technical.
The clicking is no longer present (I've not heard it since!), but time will tell whether or not this is a permanent solution.

- Elms went out of their way to make amends for my previous negative experience, so fair play to them.
