I like the look of them too, but the other day I went to have a look around some amazing BMW Ms from years gone by and decided that I would prefer the look of the M135i if it had flared wheel arches like the Ms. I still LOVE the proportions of the 1M.I think Its slightly awkward styling gives it character, in a world of photocopier hatchbacks.

Hmmm, I suppose each to his own, I think they are seriously flawed in the style department tbh, so many things one finds had to accept as even remotely pretty. Still too much power as well without LSD especially since winter set in.I think Its slightly awkward styling gives it character, in a world of photocopier hatchbacks.
I can't think of an M car that ugly although the E92M3 gets pretty close and the X5M of truly an M Car (not M bus) runs it close.

I wanted to write a post saying that it depends how you drive it, but if you're using the power then I can't deny that an LSD would make it feel so much better. On slippery surfaces with DSC off and only the ADB system on, I can feel one wheel slip, then feel the ADB brake the spinning wheel, then the sudden torque change in that wheel spins the other one up, then that gets braked, then they spin in unison. It all feels a bit clumsy where an LSD car would have just spun up both wheels and propelled itself forwards requiring a small degree of lock applied.
All that said, it's pleasantly easier to have a little slide in these conditions than in the summer. It's a car that really does prefer to be hooked up than sliding and you really have to be on your toes when the torque overrides the grip.
I have no doubt that the M135i is a better daily driver than all my old M cars, but at the cost of fun and ease of control when the grip runs out, which is where the Ms come in.
