Amazed that anyone is seriously thinking prices are "creeping up".

Whats probably happened is that the bad cars &/or people who had to sell have now all sold whereas those who were not in a hurry to sell still have theirs at the higher asking price.

With thousands of job cuts announced day in day out the suggestion of any used car price increasing is verging on your taking the piss or your idiotic/detached from reality/"Im considerably richer than Yaw".
There are reports that auction prices have firmed.

Some of the prices in Glasses have risen this month, only by £25-50 or so on things like the facelift S3, which makes a hell of a change from the £600 drop 2 months back.

I wasn't going to reply earlier as I didn't think it worth it, but as I have now entered this thread again I feel I should.

Earlier I said....

Ladies and Gentleman, there are a lot of contenders on this forum for Number 1 ****, but I do believe we have a winner.

Now, Mike, you presumed that was aimed at you, I didn't say it was you, you presumed that. I wonder why?

it could be that peoples expectations have risen, lower fuel costs mean that these cars are more affordable again. doesnt mean they are selling though. Prices seem all over the place, saw an 96 Evo with 67K on it sell for £3800 last week on ebay, whilst an immaculate 44K one got pulled, because the owner didnt think it would get to his reserve of 8.5K. There is even on on PH for £1600 quid got to be worth more than that in spares surely?

No I'm not rich but i have noticed that price's on E36 M3's (that's what we are talking about here)have picked up slightly.

Aslo ,some companys are doing quite well at the moment ie budget shopping etc ,sometime's welshbeef you have to lift your head above the fence to see what's happening elswhere to see the whole picture. We dont all walk around with blinkers firmly attached, I think you may be the one who is "detached from reality" .

By the way did you buy the M5 /M3 / 330D in the end?

Ha ha, Mike is a good character to have round here!! I have started to find him funny rather than offensive and would be pretty boring if everyone was on the same page!! Great to see so many people taking the bait.

Having been car shopping for the last couple of weeks I don't think prices are on the rise.. But demand is increasing, I think the low price of petrol is tempting people to scratch that M car itch..

Afew more 'doom and gloom/recession' reports in the media and more jobless/made redundant figures released into the mainstream and we'll witness the dropping of prices again.

I think it's always quite interesting how public behaviour is shaped by news/social events.

Prices will slide big time IMO this year.

Hey. Thanks - It's nice to feel wanted. And thank you for the vote! I call a spade a spade (even to his face - joke!) but I am nothing but honest with my opinions after 36 years of motoring. I just try to help people out when I can.

You have made it more than clear that my opinions are causing grief on this (excellently informed) forum so I shall now de-register myself later today & bow out. Thanks Gizlaroc. You do the honest people on the forum, requiring information/help no favours. After all, that is what this forum is all about.

The hilarious thing is that this year, another 1+ MILLION of us will be made redundant & I'm very sure that whoever you work for have your number. You certainly would not work for me.
Mike, I have said in various posts that you have some useful info tucked away in that weird and wonderful head of yours, just that you come across as a bitter twisted old grump and people switch off.

If you want to leave then so be it, but why not hang around? You never know it may help others and you may learn a few social skills. wink

Judging by his posts, I think that is unlikely!

Just had a quick look at E36 & E46 M3's, I did notice that there aren't that many 'dirt cheap' E46's anymore like a few months ago but E36's appear staic from October (there are also quite a few E36's that have been in dealers stock for 6 months).
Would any on PH really buy a £7k E46 with say 130k.. on say a Y reg in Black/Silver? Leather manual no xenons? Surely at that price its a no brainer buy it run it when it goes pop let it go/keep it as spare parts and buy another £7k ..

I was hunting for an M6 for a month (successfully!) and could also not help noticing 6ser and other BMW prices at auctions i went to etc. I think the prices did go up by ca 10% (and sometimes more!), definitely on M-cars and seemingly on the more desirable regular BMW models (see my post in gassing station for some actual prices). Whether this would reverse in march when reg changes with more cars coming to market is to be seen, but my guess re Jan/Feb is that the stocks went down significantly (eg at one point there were only 2 m6s in auc nationally...now >10). The cheaper cars were also sold in nov/dec and not replaced by similarly-priced ones, in fact quite the opposite happened - replacements with similar ages/mileages went up as dealers suddenly realised there is unsatisfied demand... (and after the first wave the number of private buyers despirate to sell went down dramatically). One particular example that struck me was a 55reg m6 with sub 30k miles bought at auction for ca £31.5k and then immediately put on the market as bmw 'auc' for £38k! not a typical example and it remains to be seen if/what it sells for, but still demonstrates the point

MikeZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!! ROFLMAO!!!

You are a true legend.... don't forget to tell everyone why your experience of 90+ cars in 36 years helps to provide valuable insight on Internet forum law and regulation...

laugh

The day I find out you really mean all that stuff you spout is the day I'll be truly gutted - at the moment I think you're a comedy GENIUS!!!!!

P.S Car values... I think they've stabilised but not risen... my M6 may have been that auction one!!! Maybe not as it's an ex BMW finance car and apparently went straight in to the AUC network.
