E36 M3 Evo - Best 'mod' I ever did!...
Discussion
Now I expect most people aren't as daft as me & would have checked this before but when messing around under the bonnet I noticed my throttle cable seemed a little loose. I adjusted it so it was nice & tight, but not too tight so it still idled where it should, & all I can say is wow! I can't believe the difference, much better throttle response & it is very noticeably quicker than it's ever been (in the 7 years I've had it!)
Just thought I would post incase anymore else is as dopey as me (which I doubt!) & has never checked this.
Cheers.

SNAP..! my mate in a e46 m3 pulled away from me in third the other day.. so i relised something was wrong.. anyway got the mrs in the car pressing the pedal fully and i noticed that the throttle bodys where only opening about 80%.. so ive adjusted it (need to fit the new accelerated cable soon) and its absoltuly blistering now..! really made up with it..
i was goin to put this the other day but got beat to it..!

I replaced the throttle cable and clutch hose in mine about two weeks ago and it has made a big difference. If you have a search on m3cutters, Evolve mention a car where before performing a remap they replaced the throttle cable and put the car on the rolling road to find a significant power increase (something like 280 before to 305 after). As with my old cable, you'll eventually reach full adjusment and will simply have to replace it. The old cable also offered about as much precision as would be available from a sledgehammer while fixing a watch and actually creaked. The clutch hose also makes a huge difference and raised the biting point in my car by what feels like a couple of inches. When the car was hot with the old clutch hose, I couldn't select reverse or first without pumping the pedal a few times.
Yeah I replaced the clutch hose on mine a while ago, made a big difference too. If I remember correctly, the only downside was you lose a plug or something for the cruise control so it doesn't dis-engage when you press the clutch, no big deal though.
I'll be replacing the throttle cable too shortly, fair enough after 15 years of use I suppose!

Indeed, you lose the clutch pressure switch, though Bexley do a hose for the Evo allowing the switch to be used. I'll be replacing the throttle cable too shortly, fair enough after 15 years of use I suppose!
When I owned my old Jaguar XJS I discovered one day that the carpet had slid up the footwell slightly and was covering up the throttle pedal stop. Pulled the carpet down and transformed the car. It must have been like it for years. I was chuffed that I had noticed it, but felt like a bit of an idiot as it had taken me 5 years.
I had a similar problem with my 3.0 so I replaced the cable. About 6months later it had started to stretch again. It got to the point where it was almost at the end of the adjustment. Rather than buy a new cable I bought a throttle cable end off e-bay for 69p that has a screw on it for sdjustment. Put it on the end of the cable and its been fine for the last 6months and not stretched any more. It also seem to have a fine adjustment and the response on the pedal feels much sharper with it on, best 69p I spent.
