Ooops did not see the post.;)I saw this the other day.
I think they have some weird grudge on the M3, Look how hamfisted he is with the steering wheel? I mean wtf?
There is no way its slower in that situation I'm sorry, Theres far too many reasons for it not to be which I can't even be arsed with.
Actually **** it.
Lighter
More powerful
Wider track
Better tyres
Stiffer shell (BY FAR)
Faster gearbox (was he using a DSG I forget? If he was, It should be worth at least 1 second.)
More balanced weight due to lighter lump
I'm sorry but there is just no chance.
At all.
There's an agenda there I swear it.

Over a full lap on a track it would show its differences but how many M owners track their cars more than a few times a year. The review in my eyes gives the impression of an empty bit of decent twisty road akin to a nice Sunday morning hoon. The difference just isn't that great and yes its a shame.

That's been the same with M cars from the year dot though....certainly since the E36 they have had a performance envelope it's hard to get near to using on a public road and retain your license. I used owned a 328i Sport from new and sold it and bought an E36 M3...I remember thinking at the time that the 328i was 90% of the car of the M3 and if anything on a motorway or A road was probably a nicer drive (better suspension for the job). It was also 2/3 of the money (£28k vs £42k from memory).
I later owned an E46 M3 which I had for two years and loved....I lived with it in the Swiss Alps for a month driving up and down mountain passes every day....when I came back to London I sold it shortly after.
Brilliant cars but sadly as you say just not that different from the best of the rest of the range.
