I was rather stunned yesterday to get all the way from Essex to Loch Lomond in my F10 on a single tank of V-Power, compared to almost two (smaller) tanks in my old E60.
The computer indicated 29.3mpg....and I was "making progress" whenever conditions allowed.
Incredible stuff!
That's pretty good - the best I've managed driving like Miss Daisy is mid 20's.The computer indicated 29.3mpg....and I was "making progress" whenever conditions allowed.

I'm averaging 15 at the moment (to be fair on mainly short journeys) which is where I thought I'd be.

Now that mine has loosened up with 5000 miles under its belt, I'm finding longhaul m'way cruising at the NSL or thereabouts delivering 29ish to the gallon (always Shell V-Power), with a brisker pace giving me 26-27! Really remarkable.
Makes me want one! My quick man maths make it £75 a month cheaper for me to run a F10 M5 over the E92 M3 I am looking at. Hmmmm (purchase price is irrelevant for this equation Even I've got 26mpg out of my V10 M6 on a loooonnnnggggg (and boring) motorway journey. The new car, with 2 less cylinders, twin turbos, more low down torque and a smaller engine will get more easily.
I've got 320 miles out of a tank in my V10. The newer cars should get 350-420mpg without even trying too hard.

do not know how you get those figures TBH.
Thts is the best I've done so far by some margin, it was a slow, but steady, trip where there was plenty of traffic but it was at least moving. I did a long trip the other day which is pretty representative of the average I get on a long journey. JMBMWM5 said:
Whats the RPM @ indicated 80MPH?.
On my LCI M5 it's 2K RPM @ 80MPH.
I think the M6 GC is slightly higher geared (7th).
I think the ratios are the same, but I'm not 100% sure without looking it up.On my LCI M5 it's 2K RPM @ 80MPH.

I heard one yesterday, and while I still think it looks little pig nosed at the front, and like a 3 series, they are starting to grow on me. Maybe next year if I can land a decent paying job I will have one
ETA: Managed 27mpg out of my E39 on Saturday over 130 miles, with some pressing on as well. Quite impressed really.

That was part of my man maths - but my experience going from E90 M3 to F10 M5 is the M5 is no more economical overall.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
