X6-based M Model On the Way

X6 M Car expected to sell as well as M5...

If your idea of a BMW M-car is not a four-seat SUV/Coupe that weighs over two tonnes then look away now - because the X6 is joining the party! According to reports BMW has confirmed a high performance version of the X6 after seeing how well the Cayenne Turbo and AMG Mercedes MLs have done.

Speaking with Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, the boss of BMW’s M division, Ludwig Willisch said that sports versions of the X5 and X6 are in the pipeline and sales are expected to match those of the M5. While they will still be powered by BMW’s new 4.4L V8 twin-turbo engine, output is expected to be higher than the current 400bhp (298kW) and 450lb-ft (600Nm) torque in the xDrive50i.

The car will have larger intakes at the front and could make its debut early next year, said Willisch. It will also have a revised grille and new side mirrors. For the rest of the range he said there will be no 1 Series-based M car and no M3 Touring.

Sod it,

As a form of transport for the 99th percentile where you're not honing your lap times to perfection, this car makes sense. It's big, looks cool and offers good visability. It's what people want clearly as BMW can't make enough of them.

I think the //M version could be quite a tool.

I would buy one. Can run over G-wizz's and such like with it's enormous tyres.

Can not imagine it depreciating well though (M5 and M6's do not seem to hold their value too well)

If plastering body kitted diesels with the once-legendary M\\ logo wasn't bad enough, they are now going to prostitute the brand further by peppering the logo all over a 4mpg, 2 tonne, 20" wheeled, footballer cock extension. They should be ashamed.

I've been heartened by the fact that I've still only seen one of these hideous monstrosities on the road - and I live in central London, watching streets flooded in almost-as-ugly Cayennes.

Maybe the UK population is finally finding a sense of taste and aesthetics. The thankful lack of X6's can't be down to "green" concerns as there are plenty of other big cars & sportscars gracing the streets.

Doesn't Mazda already make an MX5 and (did make) an MX6?

great... a massive pointless car. why would anyone want one? oh i know because women like to be in huge cars so they can feel important and not EVER let anyone out at junctions, and fat cats with small cocks need them to feel less inadequate and a bit more potent. tyres will only be around £300 each and will last about 4 roundabouts, and the 10mpg on a run is awesome economy. it will never be sporty because of the high centre of gravity but hey at least it will do 140+mph at 5mpg due to its great aerodymaic properties.

WHY?

Because people like to have a choice? No one is being FORCED to buy it, especially not with YOUR money. Granted, I don't really care for them, but if someone chooses to spend their money that way then they have more money than sense, but that's free will for you.

Of course, I'd rather the M specialists were given a budget to create a small, fast, light roadster instead...

The day I can afford one I will so enjoy caning it past you and your miserable anti 4x4 militia.

And how does that differ from a normal Supercar?

Better equip them all with 1.9 TDI's and Pirelli 6000's then.

Porsche, who have a stronger motorsport link than BMW, have already done it, so why shouldn't BMW.

Hell, if we're talking prostrating to the market, what about the Alfa MiTo?!? A CITY car from the mfr with the longest M-sport heritage of all (poss excepting Bentley)!!!

I think it's ugly, pointless, and will give the greens (pinks?) another target to blather on about. But for these image- and badge-obsessed times an X6M will be the new 'must have'!

And I will defend the owners rights to buy it...because if I don't, how long before they ban supercars, then sports cars, then anything that isn't a diesel or a hybrid???

This is already quite a "chunky" car, so imagine what it will look like when it's got the //M effect.

I'm still waiting for the price of the M6 to drop a bit first, that's the car for me.
