RS4 v M3 CS on 5th Gear, the RS4 definitely has the CS in a straight line anyway.

The 'L' makes ALL the difference!
tbh if its only about all-out performance you could go much quicker for the money by modifying a cheap Impreza/Evo/etc (especially on the sort of roads I tend to have my fun on - a standard jap-turbo-nutter car would be quicker on most of them too). A CSL is a whole lot more special though I'll freely admit - no doubt an M3 of some sort would be in my 'dream garage'

If it was ONLY about performance then my Westfield is better than either.
212bhp and 595kgs. Owes me just £6,300 to date too.
It'd destroy both at any speed under 100.
(60 in around 3.5 and 100 in about 8.5).

Sounds good, I still say it would need a pretty exceptional driver to try and keep up with say a standard STi on some of my favourite roads though But I'm kinda cheating by using gravel roads for reference. I have no doubt a quick seven would still be right up with the best on the fun sealed roads
Sorry I'm way off topic now - I suspect CSL quicker on track and RS4 quicker on real-world roads. If I was to have the choice of them as a toy it would be the CSL hands down, as an all-rounder it would be a tougher choice and might well come down to how many doors I thought I needed.

Oh yeah and in the words of clarkson himself, when driving the Audi RS4,he claimed to
be sitting about 3feet from the best engine ever made. He did mention the M3 but still said he would rather have the RS4.

Yes but thats what Clarkson said, say no more.
