gawd you are really plucking at straws now, CSL was OEM Cups so irresepctive of what V8M3 was wearing (i think it was Cup+) it is a rair comparison. If the V8 can wear Cups then CSL can have a V8 imho for the day

Temp maters very little, fastest times ive doen at Spa on Cups was in October with low temsp car breathes better and Cups are fine if you get them to temp

Real life is sooo much better .............................
Crikey, were you drunk typing that Shim? hehe

The CSL would definitely run rings around the E92! but im not to sure on straight line speed! I had a CSL with a DMS remap that dyno'd 381hp! but never got a chance to see the difference between that and the new gen m3's!!
but i think it would be very close !
What makes you think a 381 BHP car would stand a chance with a 414 BHP car?

You'd have no chance at keeping up at higher speeds, power to weight means very little over 80mph.

POWER!
erm... cornerspeed? Handling?

M3 CSL lap of Nordschleife - 7.50.00

M3 (E92) lap of Nordschleife - 8.05.00

Nuff said.
Not exactly a fair comparison though just looking at the basic data of the times

M3 csl was featured in the august 2003 issue of Sport Auto so fair to say it was tested June/July time with warm weather and cup tyres

M3 e92 was featured in the december 2007 issue so prob tested october/november far cooler conditions, but was it on cup tyres ?

You can say the same about the GTS time as well, re conditions temp etc.

Only correct way to compare times is to do the same laps on the same day/driver/tyres etc until then its all subjective.
Agree with that dave the only way to do a fair test is on the same tyres at the same time. The cups have always been an option tyre even on the csl but if you chose that option you had to sign a disclaimer as discussed in m power under dissappointed with test drive e92 m3.The m3 that was tesed was an early manual with supposed cup 2's but definately not cups and no edc.
I agree with shim that in early october with cooler air temp and still decent track temperature quick times can still be achieved,as when i competed in the british hillclimb championship if you got a good weekend in the first week of october then you had a good chance of a record.from that point on though, the temps fell fast and the tyre performance went backwards very quickly so a tyre designed for summer use not winter use will not perform at its best in very cool temperatures.
So the difference between the two is very minimal as ive been round in both at the ring in october/november.
