Just wondered what the general consensus amongst regular trackday drivers is regarding insurance. When I do bike trackdays I have never bothered with insurance, just ride within my limits.

With the car though, is it much of a different proposition? I would drive within my limits and not be looking for the absolute fastest lap.

I got a quote for cover for a trackday that I've booked at Spa at the end of May, and to be honest it's laughable what they want to charge for a single day's cover. The quote came in at well over double the cost of the trackday itself, which I don't consider value for money.

So what do you fellas do?

I also got my quote from competition car insurance. They want £391 for full cover (incl fire cover) for the day at Spa, with an excess of 10% of the full value of the car, therefore £3400!

They also offered lower payout limit cover of £20k with the same 10% excess for somewhere in the region of £300.

I don't find this figure too palatable, but may have been tempted at a lower figure. the thing is, I am comfortable with my own driving and will be staying well within my limits, but can't account for others on the circuit. Hope there are no nutters with a banzai attitude to overtaking etc.......

Still undecided as whether to insure or not, so will keep looking for better quotes.
