MX5 - Unpopular colour??
Discussion
Hi choice of colour is naturally a personal thing. Some colours lend themselves to certain cars. A Ferrari in BRG is, I think, a no-no. However, an old mgb looks the business in that colour. There are many colours that suit the MX5 but, I feel brg and white do not. My Mazda MX5 is red and is in my opinion the best colour for a roadster/sportscar. Feel free to criticise my choice ----I don't mind in the least. Grumpsy (and it is GRUMPSY and not Grumpy). A name given to me by my grandkids.
I'm with Grumpsy on this and suggest that the later cars suit bright modern metalic colours and the purer lines of the early pop up headlight cars suit red BRG and yellow etc.
All cars look worst in silver as every damn car on the road is silver it seems and white is okay on a modern but not on an early car however one mans meat is another's poison.

I think the MK1 and 2 look great in that colour-which-is-like-BRG personally. If I hadn't been pipped by half an hour at a dealer, I'd have ended up with a Mk2.5 which looked great in it. I now have a Mk 3 in black and it is INDEED a bugger to keep looking nice. The Mk 3 looks great in black though I think.
Silver is such a common colour - doesn't suit the MX5s at all. The pewter limited edition Mk 2s (or 2.5s, can't remember) looked great though. The dark blue is another strong colour, along with the copper red.

Thanks for that LordJammy. Is the colour BRG though? I have no objections to metallic green or other shades of green as opposed to BRG but do feel that BRG does not suit an MX5. What are your thoughts on white then? Grumpsy.
I wasn't replying to you, just adding to the thread that there's a green mk3 I know about in an odd colour. I do agree with you though, BRG doesn't really suit the MX5. Especially the mk2 and mk3. I think that only really the mk1 can carry off a flat colour like that well. HorneyMX5's car for example looks splendid to me.
As for white, I'm really not a fan of white cars. I think that it just makes them an appliance. There have been a few that I've seen I did think looked good though, a mk3 in a metallic/pearlescent white that looked good and an E90 M3. They were the exception in a sea of white corsas, golfs, focuses (focii?) though.
My mk1 is red which I really like but I really want a mariner blue mk1, I'm considering plastidip on my red one to see if I'll like it as much.

My neighbour had a mk2 in the metallic BRG. With it's hardtop on it did look good when it had been waxed but if it was dirty it lost all the lines and looked rubbish.
I don't like him anymore though because he sold it and got an Audi. Something about needing more room for his kids or something.

Neo Green on the Mk1. That's why us owners of green V-Specials can see the matrix.
They also did an "Excellent Green Mica" which was the metallic version of Neo Green.
I hope you get to keep the coat... They also did an "Excellent Green Mica" which was the metallic version of Neo Green.
I saw a Mk 1 in that Neo Green in the Haynes motor museum last Autumn. Very "classic British sports car" look about it. Mazda knew exactly what they were doing.
