Seizing brake callipers is a common problem on MX5s and it's very tempting to buy these cheap replacements from eBay. Don't be tempted by them! They are a very inferior quality and will not last long (a couple of days in some cases! )

Take a look at the below link for more details...

Dodgy stuff. I got recon'd ones from autolink and got money back for handing them my old, seized ones.

I always wondered about those. Looked like a good deal but I always felt more comfortable with an original set that had been refurbed than dubious brand new.

Safety first kids.

There really not that hard to refurb either in my opinion (although everyone seems to disagree).

Whip em off, cleaned and degrased, paint if you want, new piston, all new seals, new sliders, all nicely built up with red rubber grease etc, new brake line washer and bled up, Easy, not that dear, and at least you know its been done properly.

Not hard to refurb if you catch the issue early enough.

On my rear calipers the outer piston seal had failed allowing water in which corroded the bore and the outer seal seat badly, causing the inner piston seal to stick on the corrosion and making it virtually impossible to fit the new outer seal properly.

Not a problem for the factory refurbishers since they make their own pistons and can overbore the caliper if necessary.

I put my old, unserviceable calipers in for exchange at AutoLink. The "new" calipers were refurbed by Brake Engineering in the UK and have been trouble free for over three years now.

Previous to this I fitted new seals in the front calipers and they are still going strong after almost four years.
