I've just bought some stuff for my Eunos off fleabay, bonnet, boot etc so I asked the chap why he was selling them and he's turning his MK1 into a MEV Exocet.
So I googled it and found this. No prizes for guessing what look they are going for but I think it's rather cool.

Contreversial....! Not, actually, all that much less than an MX-5! the entire front and rear subframes complete with engine, box, diff and PPF are dropped out and the frame fitted over the top.

I quite like the idea though, but I don't think its hugely well executed in the styling department!

This is a very well one donor executed Kit Car indeed.

There are a number of advantages because the builder has all the mechanical bits and trim from the donor car.

I have been building kit cars for 50 odd years and I understand exactly how many advantages there are in well thought out one donor cars like the MEV X5.

Completing a kit like this with the minimum of delay and difficulty is a great deal easier than trying to source instruments, suspension and parts from a number of different sources.

Furthermore the retention of the alloy central tube and all the original suspension components makes completion a very much simpler process.

I wholeheartedly recommend these kits. I have no connection with the factory.

I just really appreciate the advantages.

Full feature on page 48 of this months PPC and a half page advert on page 51. There's an MX5 tuning guide and last month a feature of a Ford V8 powered MX5 as well.

Prices and stuff here...

www.mevltd.co.uk

Looks nice.

Hmmm, P48 and P51 are both Mustangs and a V8 will fit in the original car. scratchchin

It would seem an excellent way to 'save' a dying MX5.

They must only weigh 700kg at most.
Surely a giggle for B-Road Blasting on a Budget ?
This, there are so many MK1's out there as rotten as a pear, but solid underneath with sweet engines. If you want a cheap giggle you could do worse.

This made me laugh, taken from their website......,

This means that provided you can use a little adhesive, a screwdriver, drill and a file and sandpaper you can create a stunning sports car.

Not that I've driven one yet, but I am very familiar with the Exocet. It weights circa 500kg and the build cost is basically £2,500 + Donor. Can be build for practically nothing.

Also check out the lightweight Exocet, will be racing in 750MC next year....

Says it all really. Fully independent suspension, excellent twin cam power and proper drivetrain to boot. Got to be a really drivable enjoyable tractable road and fun car.

I researched this Kit Car at the Exeter show in considerable detail and met Stuart Mills the brains behind the outfit. Excellent product with a real enthusiast in charge.

I am swamped with unfinished Kit Cars currently otherwise I would be buying one today. However with seven Kit cars in build and four Classic Mini cars to complete I just cannot buy another one. Not even I an that stupid.

Then again?!

Undoubtedly the best Kit Car buy currently.

I thoroughly recommend the car and the firm.

No connection to me of course. Just my honest opinion.

Would rather have a Westfield MX5

Actually I'd rather than have an MX5

So far as I know the first does not exist. Nor likely to with Westfield as they have become.

Your second option offers a very different product. Much heavier and much less of a racer. But I have one and they are a nice well controlled car.

As an inexpensive, responsive, rust free racer with a lower centre of gravity and very different modern look I think the MEVX5 is quite outstanding.

Stuart has developed a coupe body fitting the same chassis and mechanics I think. There may be a roadster version as well.

The difference in performance and handling and the whole feel of the car is quite remarkable. I would suggest you drive the product and see it in the flesh. Its a damned good effort. At an unbeatable completed price.

Frankly, as an Accountant. I do not know how he does it. But he does.

I would seriously suggest a look. There ain't no substitute for experience,

Westfied MX5's do exist:

http://www.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/donorkit.htm...

With a pre 1995 Mazda MX5 you can build a Westfield SEi. Using parts from a Maxda MX5 donor vehicle, you can purchase a Westfield kit designed to carry the MX5 parts. The kits are also designed to take either the 1600 or 1800 Mazda engine

We live and learn. Well I do anyway.

I will certainly take a look at the Westfield!

aah, there you see, you've lost me.

I do not see the point in trying to make a better MX5. A guy at work showed me a ghastly kit I should make out of my MX5.

Noooo thankly you !

A light weight stripped out version - yes.
That's a fair point, but if you've got a MK1 MX5 that has either been crashed or has a rotting body, but is mechanically sound, then you could see why someone might, espcially as the kit is only 2.5K.
