Well, my 4 Potenzas are all due replacement now so I was just wondering what you lot reckon are the best tyres for the car as I know '5s can be a bit picky about rubber?

The Potenzas were brand new on when I bought my '5 a year ago and although I haven't had any trouble with them I was hoping there might be something better out there.

Thanks in advance,

WI

Oh dear, this topic appears to have been posted 3 times, its not that urgent!

My connection went a bit weird whilst I was posting it. If mods fancy deleting the other two please do!

Sorry!

I need a new pair two - they're cheap on 15" wheels! Looking at Toyo T1-Rs and GoodYear Eagle F1s.

Thats exactly what I'm torn between too, the OC forum seems to lean towards the F1s (GSD3).

It looks like Black Circles will do the 4 for just under £200 fitted, has anyone spotted any better prices?

Well I paid under £180 for a set of 4 GY F1 GSD3 195/50/15 fitted & balanced.

That was from Bracknell Tyre & Battery down in Bracknell, Berks (duh) so not a lot of help to you up in Edinburgh but could be helpful to anyone down south. I've been using them for about the last 8 years and they have ALWAYS beaten any on-line prices with their firts (and only) offer. I did try testing them once by saying that I'd found a better offer online but they just said, Yeah? Well you'd better take it then because we can't go any cheaper!

Cheers Lazza - that's handy to know (as it's just down the road).

I usually use Micheldever (as it's close to work).

But not had a need to replace the tyres on the 5 yet.

ETA: Currently have Yokohamas on mine.

Thanks for the info, I might be based down south again in the near future so its good to know!

My Black Circles price was taken down to £192 after Googling for a discount code that gave me 5% off, okay it didn't save me fortunes but it's still 2 or 3 pints!

Had the F1s fitted on Saturday and although they're not fully run in yet, first impressions are fantastic. Loads of grip, progressive break away, and as a bonus they look good too.

I've got GSD3s on my 16s. Amazing levels of grip.

For a cost effective option, could do worse than BF Goodrich Profiler 2's. Had to replace all 4 of mine unexpectedly (don't ask!); these were the cheapest quality brand and I have to say I have been really impressed with them. Haven't been on track with them but for road use can't fault them - grippy wet or dry and balance of car feels good with them. Haven't tried the others suggested so no idea how they compare. Mine's a mk1 on 14's.

Hmmm.

Used blackcircles a couple of times and they've been good:

For 195/50 R15s

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 @ 50.13 a tyre
Toyo T1-R @ 52.70

but on mytyres

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 @ 36.10
Toyo T1-R @ 27.90

yikes so I could get all the tyres replaced for not much more than a hundred!! Having said that, blackcircles includes fitting, mytyres doesn't.

Isn't there a PH discount on mytyres?
