OK, the missus has taken more of a shine to the MX5 than I expected and instead of it just being my occasional hoon/track day car, it's being used as a bit of a weekender - so I'm thinking of smartening it up with some new wheels as the current ones are chewed up on every rim, bubbling, I've broken a centre cap on one and I don't really like them much.

So - what do you reckon?
What would you recommend? Show me your ideas!
My car is BRG - for some reason I like the idea of white wheels - would this look any good?

They need to be 15".
They need to be light.
They need to be cheapish – say no more than £150 each.
Also - what are the merits of 6.5" vs 7" width? (Mine are 6.5")

Pic of current wheels below.

Cheers,
Matt

Thanks for all your thoughts and photos - much appreciated

Oz Racing Ultraleggera - good shout, but struggling to find them in MX5 size and spec

Snotrag / Howard - your cars look great with white wheels. I'm still trying to convince myself that BRG will suit white alloys..

Original BBS wheels area a good shout but seem to be like hen's teeth.

Gold wheels are something I'd not thought of before - good call, I'll look into this. Anyone got any pics of a BRG / Gold?

Combover - Ultralite D1's look like a good wheel. I'm looking into these.

Agree that that the MK2 15" wheels are light - just that the style has never really grabbed me. Look nice enough on a Mk2 though.

Decisions, decisions...

Just noticed the Team Dynamics Pro Race 2 (Race version) on the MOT website which look good.

The full name is Racing Sparco NS-II. Manufactured in Japan by Crimson Inc. They were on the car when it was imported.

A google search reveals:

www.tegiwaimports.com

alternatively keep an eye on ebay or the various MX5 forums.

My sources tell me that this wheel weighs 34lbs inc tyre

I make that 15.5kgs - anyone know how much an inflated tyre weighs?

Could anyone post a link to that wheels-weights table.
I've seen it before and obviously not saved it to my favourites..

Lazza, you make some good points - I guess it's not that clear cut between the perception of what makes 'a good set of wheels'

Food for thought.

Thanks for finding these. Still not sure if I'm comfortable with gold though if I'm honest..

There you go, swear filter friendly!
I'm starting to like the idea of origianl BBS wheels more and more. These are a bit of a trek for me though.
