I need help with my next 'Investment'
Discussion
I still cannot actually believe my better half is convinced that my addiction to watches really is an investment, but hey, one has to battle on
I need some good ideas for my next purchase - I fancy something new but not sporty, price not too important (but not silly please!), not too off the wall, and hopefully something that may be worth vaguely what I paid for it in 20 years time?

Any chance of being slightly less vague?
Ball park budget would help?
You say not sporty, does that mean no divers & no chrono's?
Is a bracelet essential?
Approx how big?
fair questions, no divers, no chrono, no specific budget - but has to have a good chance of retaining value, not worried on strap/bracelet, Ball park budget would help?

Milgauss?
In 20 years I reckon they'll be worth a bit given they're not massively popular now.
Hope your right. I bought a GV 20 months ago. Knew nothing about watches but fancied a Daytona, so used to pop into my local AD (sort of backed onto my place of work) often for a chat and try and tap him up for one of these In 20 years I reckon they'll be worth a bit given they're not massively popular now.
He then showed me this green glass Milgauss which he had for a customer (200 miles away) who he had been trying to contact.
Long story short - i bought it there and then. Could of sold it immediately if i had wanted too for a small profit, but i wear it daily (does have a couple of scratches around the bezel thingy). Was hoping they would stay pretty rare-ish, but have since seen 2 in AD windows. As for investment - who knows. But i love mine - feels just right, and the way certain lights catch the green glass . Always liked the Rolex bracelets too.
The Milgauss is a pleasure to own

That's what people said last time they issued the Milgauss, but they are all in the dealers windows now. I'm not criticising it, it's a nice watch, just not sure of the investment potential. In 20 years I reckon they'll be worth a bit given they're not massively popular now.
I have just been given on of these for my birthday and its a lovely thing, although it is pretty large!
Has a really nice glass back:
Beautiful watch, not sure about investment potential, but who really cares about that! It certainly gets as much attention as my other watches, if that is a concern, but its a little bit different, at least I havent seen anyone else on the tube with one on, unlike the legions of Omegas and Rolex's!!

I am confident i could of had a Daytona from the same AD quicker than the estimated 7 year wait BUT, and i am not just saying this because of the £3k price difference - i think i prefer my Milgauss (at the moment anyway). Although i am warming to a few of the Pans
Milgauss - not an investment (IMHO) - tooooo readily available. Hope LukeBird is right though

Plenty unsold brand new Daytona's on ebay, the game is up on that one now!
Toooo expensive IMHO. When i first inquired about the Daytona it was £3k something, couple of years later - £6k LukeBird said:
It'll certainly be interesting to see if the Milgauss is worth anything in the future.
Early ones are worth a fair whack now as they were pretty rare.
Just hope the current Milgauss gets discontinued due to low demand Early ones are worth a fair whack now as they were pretty rare.
...terrible watch, bits just keep falling off it, glass turned a horrible shade of brown - nobody purchase one of these Milgauss thingys - send it back!, buy a Daytona instead

How about a Dornbluth 99.1 for about £4k
or if you want to spend just a little more
The Lange & Sohne Richard Lange Pour le Merite might just hit the spot.
thanks for replies folks, some interesting ideas there, the Lange & Sohne is fantastic but perhaps a touch more than I was looking to spend!or if you want to spend just a little more
