A year with "my first Rolex"

I can assure you there's nothing fake about me! Just a desire not to be ripped off or be a lamb to the slaughter at the behest of an overpriced item just for the name tag. I'm no ones slave, let alone to vanity.
I’m curious about something, as I think there’s a bit of doublethink going on here. Why did you buy a fake Rolex, rather than a perfectly good watch from the high street? If you’re not vain, or interested in the name tag, surely you wouldn’t “need” to buy a fake...
Equally, if you truly believe that the message owning a Rolex gives out is that you’re the type to be ripped off and suckered by marketing, like a “lamb to the slaughter”, why would you want others to think you’re someone who was?
Just asking...

it's hard to describe to someone who doesn't own one. Nearly all consumer goods are just manufactured to the lowest bid RFP, cheapest components, mass produced. You don't realise how st most of the things you own are until you buy something that is well-engineered out of decent materials. Even the click of the bezel feels precise and special. It's why many people buy these type of things.
You're unlikely to see a fake watch which fully emulates that but even if you did, you'll still know you're a fraud trying to deceive people into admiring you.
The problem with (at least part of) this argument is that there's a significant amount more precision engineering in a £20 Casio watch, but it's hidden inside a plastic case with a digital dial, making the shiny shiny the only part one is actually paying for in a Rolex. You're unlikely to see a fake watch which fully emulates that but even if you did, you'll still know you're a fraud trying to deceive people into admiring you.

fake posts too then? makes you wonder about what motivates some people to go the computer and use the Internet really.
Nope not fake, just put forward my situation. Not saying it fits with anyone else’s or tries to, people may not like it but have to recognise it’s a valid view. I have Rolexes but they are vintage and no one does fakes/replicas/homages but I still won’t disrespect the replica sub as it has its place.Countdown said:
@blown2cv (or any prestige watch owners) does it bother you that people by fakes?
I’m guessing not because your enjoyment of your watch won’t be affected by other people owning fakes but I was just wondering
Personally, no - if anything it’s handy, as you can always claim it’s a fake if the need arises. I’m guessing not because your enjoyment of your watch won’t be affected by other people owning fakes but I was just wondering

no it doesn't bother me at all, they just have very different motivations and probably a very different economic status than people that buy real ones. I am proud of the things I have done that have led me to the point where I can afford a genuine watch, and i wear it for the pride that brings within me, not because someone else might see the watch and assume I am a successful or wealthy person. I’m guessing not because your enjoyment of your watch won’t be affected by other people owning fakes but I was just wondering
However the issue for me comes when fake buyers start slinging st about genuine buyers being mugs or ripped off, things like that. If all you want is the appearance I can understand why the real value to genuine buyers is lost on them.

Rolex is like a Porsche for your wrist. A bit dull, but their excellent marketing makes them sound sexy and exciting.
i think you'll find that most luxury watch owners do not put "exciting" at the top on their list of requirements. Someone wanting an exciting watch should maybe go and look at a diesel fat boy or whatever they are called. V6Pushfit said:

It's not a replica. It's counterfeit. You have also called it the 'low budget rolex'
Say's a lot.
I'd have a lot more respect for people who buy counterfeit gear if they were honest about their intentions, that they want to look like they posses something they don't to impress other people, but very few do.
I can even understand that some people buy them to catch people who believe they can tell the difference out, in a kind of Mark Twain 'Concerning Tobacco' type way.
But it doesn't make your counterfeit watch a 'replica' or something that could be described as a 'low budget rolex'
If you wanted a really good Sub replica there many, but what you wanted is a counterfeit Rolex.

Can one of the faible horology connoisseurs point me in the direction of a convincing replica Lange Zeitwerk?
The Zeitwerk is my grail watch. I couldn't wear a replica of anything much less of a watch that I desire as much as the Zeitwerk.Would be depressing AF every time I looked at my wrist.

My post was a cunning ploy to see if these people who profess to not be able to differentiate a £100 knock off from a Rolex, could genuinely be blind to the workmanship of a Lange and the execution of the Zeitwerk.
Give it time. There will be somebody.

i don't really get why someone would own multiple vintage and genuine rolexes and then choose to wear a fake one. I am not sure I believe it.
You have the pleasure of owning the genuine item, but don't risk damaging it.Blown2CV said:
