they've set the time wrong too!

nice job though, looks like a new one. Is that always what they do or can you request that they retain 'patina'?

Yes you can ask for a service but no polish. It's usually the sensible option as too much polishing dulls the sharpness of the case lines and lugs. I also think that a Rolex with patina is a fine thing.

You can request they do not polish it, or replace any parts which do not affect the function of the watch, ie dial and handset. I bought this GMT knowing it needed work - The crystal was chipped and cracked, the winding mechanism worn, the case was badly gouged in places and the bracelet clasp broken.

I retained the original handset and dial, had a full service and polish, replaced the bezel insert for a new one but i have retained the original as it is nicely faded, and replaced the original jubilee bracelet for an oyster.

Mine is still in original unpolished condition so worn sparingly

The service and polish on the watch was £505 inc VAT. For this they also replace 'consumables' such as all the seals, springbars etc. There were additional charges for the elements I had requested replacing - the crystal, the bezel and bezel insert, and the oyster bracelet.

ah right, the core service and polish isn't tooooo bad, esp considering the newer ones are longer intervals... i guess the devil is in the "additional charges"
