ebay watches - are they all fakes?
Discussion
Personally I think there is sometimes a load of cobblers spouted on PH about watches, if all you want to do is use it to tell the time (You say it will get a hard time, carrying bricks etc), why not just go in a shop and buy a nice looking NEW decent make, Sekonda, Accurist etc for around £50....It should last around ten years and if it doesn't, throw it away and buy another.........

official dealers in singapore etc and give them a call. Also, be aware that most are open to bartering.
What do you offer them? Clothes? Jewellery? Bottles of HP sauce? :
Return custom usually, when I go there's usually at least 2 or 3 of us, always with money to spend. And no we aren't rappers or anything of the sort They seem to love the haggle as much as we do, same goes for Dubai if you know where to go and avoid the bigger malls.

Ah no: you buy a used TVR. That way everybody thinks you have money, which is their problem.

what a load of shit I know more pikeys/council house owners with a lot more money than half of you ignorent people, sorry for being polite.I totally disagree, the pikeys should pay you a visit cna be very nice people if givern the chance.
Well of course they've all got loads of money: so would we if we didn't act like responsible citizens and pay our way in society.
You will NOT find any sympathy for Gyppos on here mate.
I got ripped off for £400 buying a used watch from Ebay. A seller with great ratings sent me a crappy eample of the watch I wanted, whereas the picture on the advert had been of a mint one. He promised me a refund, I sent the watch back, and never heard anything more. No responses to emails, no help from paypal or eBay.
I just gave up on it at that point, as it was not worth pursuing, but it was, for me, a lesson learned, and I will not buy that sort of thing from eBay again.

I would say he's ok. 4 Negatives in 1626 transactions is exemplary performance, thats 0.25%

Get off that fence !!
But seriously, a year ago I bought a 3 month old Seamaster Auto on EBAY for £640. It came with every bit of original documentation and packaging, as well as the Ernest Jones receipt for £1,100 !
I guess this was one which the pikeys let slip.......

I've bought several watches off ebay with full documentation, and stamped warrenty cards. Since sent said warrenty cards in and had confirmation from the manufacturers that my watches are covered. I have quite a few watches in the collection and love the Oakley brand.
Oakley Time Tank, UK rrp £899, cheapest in the UK I have seen was around £750 from an internet seller. I paid $800 from a Florida based Oakley dealer via ebay. I have all the original papers, warranty and a receipt for the watch. I also bought a Timebomb in a similar way with all the papers/warranty/receipt for $450, this is a watch that at the time had a UK highstreet price of £1000.
UK high street Oakley shops are not allowed to offer any discount and must charge RRP (Oakley rep told me this in York), if they do give discount and are found out they loose the franchise.
As long as you know what you are looking for and open your eyes you can find sellers far cheaper than the UK via ebay. You will still for the watches, just nowehere near the UK price. Having said this the old adage applies....
"If it looks too good to be true... it is"
Top model Seiko's for £1.20? I dont really buy that one.

No they are not all fake, not by a long chalk.
I've bought plenty of watches on eBay and no fakes, though to be fair usually vintage rather than new.
As someone else said look at the site carefully, read the feedback, check the appearance against the manufacturer's website and so on.

Lots of fakes, but plenty of real ones, too. And some at good prices.
Got myself a Breitling Hercules for £1k off list price. Was it a risk? Yes. Did it mean wiring money to Singapore? Yes. Was I worried? Yes. But, the chap had 1000+ feedback for similar items, I'd checked the serial number on the paperwork, it was fully boxed with ALL the papers, certificates, etc. and having had it in for a service since, it's no lemon.
