MTM Special ops (this one is called the Blackhawk)....

As made for and worn by US special forces. Virtually indestructable. Very cool. $450US + $75US shipping to the UK (Titainium version is $550USD). They are actually rechargable and charge through electromagnetic induction. One charge lasts over a month.

They also make the worlds only water proof diving watch, the fluid filled Balck Seal...

Bit more pricey at $1600USD + same shipping, but very handy should you ever wish to decend to 6,600fathoms (thats 39,600ft).

They also feature havily when TV shows/movies want to go ultra realistic on outiftting thier cast with the correct gadgetry, weaponry....

(He's wearing a BlackHawk with the Ballistic band)

Not sure about those watches CivPilot. Surely wearing a watch with "Special Ops" or, worse, "Extreme Ops" on the dial is only for those who are
a) actually special ops
b) already wearing a T-shirt that says "Twaaaat of the Century" on the front

A little bit too "Tries hard" for me...

Breil are an inexpensive watch, well made, very tough and a pleasure to wear and look at. I have a TH Carrera for special occasions but find the Breil watches so good for every day that I have just ordered my 5th one since Christmas ( it is not that they don't last long, it is just I keep seeing other models that take my fancy ).

Someone wanted a "rough and tumble" watch for doing messy stuff and not worrying about damage.... what is toughter than something made for the Special forces? Surely if you want a watch that will please other people before it full fills its required role then you already have the T-shirt. Seriously, What does it matter what a watch says on the face?

Some great suggestions already like the Sieko orange monster, but again, the orange monster is one with "street kudos" and a "name" behind it... why not just buy a Casio G-Shock Mudman or a second hand Frogman off ebay?. No image either way and does the job as requested better than most of the other suggestions. However, my suggestion is one of (if not the) toughest watch ranges on sale at the moment. If op can get over the shame of the words written on the face rolleyes then the MTM will more than fill the OP's original criteria as requested.

Sorry mate, I meant no offence, and you have at least offered some suggestions (which is itself more than I have done in this thread). I don't doubt the watches' credentials; I just feel uncomfortable with the idea of wearing/wanting mil-spec gear when you don't have the credentials yourself, if you see what I mean. I wouldn't wear a 2 Para tie, even if I could buy one, either.

Look there's another one ... why oh why is the date wheel black on white when the rest of the dial is white on black?

and yes I know I have two watches with day/date wheels like that myself ...

Easier to read?

Can use the same date wheel with the blue, yellow, whatever colour faces?

No offence taken (Or intended in my reply). I do know what you mean, but at the same time people will only see the writing if the wearer made the choice of flashing it around. Bought for the purpose nobody would be any the wiser. I put money that most would think it some sort of Sieko/Citizen/Argos special, I find that people tend not to recognise watches that are not a "brand".

For example in my collection I have a Luminox 3402 Nighthawk.....

This watch is an officially licenced product to the US Airforce and standard issu to the pilots qualified to fly the F-117A Stealth bomber. Know obvisouly I'm not a fully qualified US Airforce Stealth aviator, yet I bought it because Luminox have a very good reputation for building dam strong and reliable watches using the absolute top quality parts and specifications. The radioactice luminous fluid in the vials has a 25year half life for example. On top of that its also a very discrete, and IMHO pretty stylish watch. I can wear it both in the office and out down the pub and it "fits" in both environments.
I dont walk around flashing my "Stealth watch" but those people who have asked what it is are always understanding that the watch has a certain credo that others don't. I have found that people tend to appeciate it more when they find out the AirForce/stealth connection than before they know anything, yet that isnt even its strongest point for me.

The MTM range of watches are rated far above the Luminox range in terms of strength and durability, and for me that means they must be pretty dam good.

ps. Given the choice I would also choose not to have "special forces" on the face, but only because I prefer clearer faces on black watches (little preference I have ). The that fact that Special forces is there doesnt bother me though. Besides, it's not just there as a badge, but rather an indorcement of the quality. Good enough for a war zone, good enough for an hour on a mountain bike laugh

On the Luminox..

I have/had a H3 watch which I think is the same made under licence for the tech of the glow bits but the watch itself is I belive the same just different logos on the front. (The face is identical apart from the decals) and it was fine for the first 3 years until the battery needed changing and since then it had not kept time corretly despite 2 different batteries and being sent back twice.

I loved the bright glow of the phyles but would be warery when the battery goes. Hence a cheap and chearful G shock now. Wish G-shoc casio would do the glow phyls.

I have a Traser watch for everyday being in the RAF. Its very tough had the battery changed and it still keeps great time being a swiss quartz movement. They now trade under the H3 name but are the same watches. Very strong and have 10 year light source on the dials, great at night and good for diving with too. They do a variety of styles now that were not around when I got mine some 5 yrs ago. Seen a few on ebay for sale that need a battery change are are going for next to nothing but they are only £30 for full service and battery etc. Worth looking at.

The H3 is made under licence, but it is lower down the chain (no offence). The H3 does not have the same battery technology. The Luminox came with a certificate telling when the battery was fitted and the watch actiavated this also acts as garauntee that the battery will last for a minimum of 10years. It's one of their selling points.

XJSJohn, how is the speedmaster as an everyday watch? Why pick up a Breitling colt for £300 when I can get a speedmast for £600???
