You buggers!

Only just gone out and bought myself a new watch! laugh

Here's what I was wearing until I lost the crown on Wednesday rolleyes

All my other watches (cheap nasty Lorus, cheap chrono of some description that weighs a ton, pocket watch) have flat batteries, and my nice silver mechanical pocket watch only comes out on special occasions - so here's what I've been wearing since laugh

And here's what I've just bought!

OK, it's not posh but I think it looks really nice, classy yet understated, decent make, going to buy a st/st strap for the summer. Cost just over 200 which is enough for me It will do until I can afford that Tag Heuer Carrera Chrono cloud9

Without wanting to generalise or offend, I have found that there are some gentleman of the Arabic persuasion who do not value such trinkets.
Fortunately, I have developed a trading relationship with a few and tbh, what I have paid for some pieces would make you weep.

At the risk of appearing cynical, it does appear to me that the numerous “we hate Rolex” threads started on P’heads fora in itself evidences an “envy factor” that future posters will no doubt deny.

What rot.
I don't have any Rolexes because they are too downmarket, have a bad image, are mass produced in huge numbers and are not very good watches.
Instead I have a collection, on a row of winders, of some "proper" watches.
You are the one who would be envious.

Just now I am wearing a nice bi-metal El Primero on an Ostrich strap, a vastly superior device to anything Rolex have ever made.

Indeed, it does make me think he enjoys his vice versa.

Having said that, I do have an Audemars Piguet in steel and gold. However, when someone offers you their entirely legit boxed and papered Royal Oak for £400, you are far too busy biting their hand off at the ankle to give a feck what a colour it is...

Did that really happen?

Oh yes completely and utterly agree. They mostly seem to be bought by folk who want to say "LOOK AT MY ROLEX"

Basically the same as those that buy a Porsche to be seen in rather then to drive it. Alot of Porsche drivers would be perfectly happy with the same price tag and body if it was a yaris under the skin.

Now i can completely see the expensive watch as a piece of art argument but not a Rolex it just shouts i want to impress so much. Normally huge showy and tacky perfect for your normal secondhand car dealer with his orange tan.

Your chippy generalisations about Porsche drivers are as dumb as your generalisations about Rolex wearers. Sure a few will buy either for the status, but I warrant their satisfaction doesn't last very long. However, most buyers who choose Porsche's do so for their performance, quality and sublime handling, and in some ways would probably prefer they looked like a Yaris.

I'm happy to declare an interest; I've had 5 Porsches since owning my first 10 years ago, and wear the same plain s/steel Rolex I've worn for 22 years.

Yeah, they were happy to take payment and keep it back for me. The woman there said that the sports models don't hang around long, and I did not want to miss out, once I had made my mind up.

It is strange, but I am realy excited about getting it now. I don't normally buy anything like this, but, so far, I am happy that I have. I have not had the normal "post purchase doubt" that happens after I spend money.

NCT,

That watch, although rather excellent, is rather large in comparison to your wrist. As I am of a skinny wrist, fat body mixture, I bought one of these:

Thing is, Omega is a bit out of my budget. It doesn't look as bad as that in real life, once the leather strap has worn in a bit I think it will fit my wrist better. Certainly no bigger than my old watch.

Sorry NCT, that was rude. There is nothing wrong with your wrist, it's just the watch is a bit bulky for it, I could'nt wear a slim watche on my wrist but I quite liked the look of them (only just bought a watch for 1st time so what do i know)

Sorry

Great watch, simple understated, classic design, built like a brick outhouse and not too expensive. Now I would never say this was naff. Some of the gold rolex's aren't to my taste but this is a classic. So many watches now try to copy the basic style.

Mines 20 yrs old more or less.

hehehehehehe
(i quite like those (in the right context))...but understated?? they're the ones that i thought people were taking issue with..what with them having bright red and blue bits on them! hehehehehehe

Yep, it did. Only a quartz, but in this case I'm not complaining.

There's one particular dealer in Jordan I have bought a number of pieces off and this was one of his.

There are at least two very large feedback watch dealers on ebay UK that also source from him, as I have seen things I've turned down or not been able to afford appear shortly afterwards.
