I bought one and sold it again, I couldn't wear it as I came to the conclusion that they are only bought by people that wear them for pub power!
What a strange post.
You bought a watch that you thought aspirational, found it wasn't what you expected and now scoff at others who like them.
Perhaps not everyone buys them for the same reasons you did?
Nope, keep up.
I bought in as some of you did to the whole Rolex thing, thinking they were the timepiece to be reckoned with, a real quality item to have for life. I liked them but in the real world. I'm sorry they ARE tacky.
Why isn't a Rolex a quality watch? What's tacky about this submariner? It may not be to everyone's tastes but I don't think it's an overly showy, ostentatious watch.

I honestly think tags just look the business, my brother is a dive instructor so has an omega, my mate drives a boxster so has a rolex, I have 3 tags and I think they look so much better.
Exact opposite for me. My Dad's a dive instructor and has been wearing his Rolex ever since he started diving 20 years ago and has never had a problem with it. My uncle works in sales, drives a BMW soft top and wears an Omega. Also both would never buy a Tag due to seeing how crap my one holds the time.
I say buy what you like.
Other than Omega's, which are for people who think all Andy Mcnab books are fact and that they will look cool drinking a vodka martini.

Oh dear..and you were doing so well up to that point. Omegas are fine watches, I have several. My Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch with crystal back is the only watch I would never part with. Perhaps the most significant watch in history...

...or Mini drivers, as Mr Bean prefers a teddy to good timepiece.

That's a low blow bringing my minis into this.

From reading your posts you obviously know your watches. Even though my Grandfather had his own timepiece repairer/mechanic business I admit to knowing sweet FA about watches and really prefer going for looks rather than anything else.

I'm not a big an of Rolex's but then I do consider myself to have a bit of taste. A nice Zenith, IWC, A Lange & Sohne, Girard-Perregaux or Jaeger LaCoultre would be much nicer to own.
Tags and Omegas are just commodity watches that are ridiculously overpriced and marketed. A Seiko would be a better quailty watch.
As for diving, any proper diver wouldn't use a watch anyway these days, they have flash dive computers. (Or a decent Seiko)

Some of the older generation divers still like to have a watch on them to back up their "flash dive computers", Or maybe its just a way of attracting the fish.

In which case I'd prefer one of these over a Rolex

Some strong opinions here. My 2p worth's. I have four watches, one is a 1980's analog/ digital Pulsar Quartz that I my parents (bless 'em) bought me when I graduated. It suffered a terminal malfunction a few years ago but lasted far longer than it should. I keep it for sentimental reasons and wear it when I go somewhere I don't want to go home from - Is it that time already? My watch must have stopped! Oh come on, you're not going to charge me another £200 - (kidding)
I've a Swatch plastic thing I wear every day and has a stopwatch function which is good for running. My parents also bought me a cheap 'Rolex' lookeelike (bless 'em) when I told them the Pulsar was bust. I sometimes wear it when we visit.
I also have a real Rolex. Not one of those flash blingy gruesome things some folk mistake for class, but a Cellini Danaos in 18 carat white gold with a black face and gold hands and a crocodile strap. It is very subtle and understated and while it is one of the cheapest Rolex models, it is one of the few I would wear in their current collection. It makes me smile every time I look at the time, or at least it does when I wear it, which is not often as I'd hate it to get damaged or have it lose its novelty! Also you have to wind it up, which is cool.
Of course these things are highly subjective and the only thing that really matters about a watch is ...
1) Does it work?
2) Do you like it?
Bit like a car really :-)
